“Ice is a different person today than she was before she hurt her shoulder,” Geno Auriemma said prior to her return against Marquette. “She spent the entire time really, really, really working her brains out. So then when she came back, this is the best she's looked since she's been at Connecticut.”
It wasn’t the first time Brady suffered a significant injury in college — she missed her entire true freshman season with a knee injury — but this time was different. The absence resonated with Brady far more than before.
“When she was freshmen and she dislocated her knee, she had no idea what she was missing. Zero,” Auriemma said. “Now after playing and having the success that she had last year at the [Big East] Tournament and how much she helped us in the NCAA Tournament, now all of a sudden it goes away and she's devastated.“
Brady certainly looked better against Marquette but crucially, this isn’t just an overreaction to one contest. The progress has mostly happened behind-the-scenes, which wasn’t the case last March.
“This is the best conditioned, the best shape she's been in since she got to Connecticut,” Auriemma said.
And btw, this is a thread for folks to enjoy the article, as I've previously referenced Geno's comments wrt how Ice has responded after the shoulder injury vs knee. Please do not take this opportunity to bash her for what she has or has not done, season-to-date.

I was at the game with my family on Sunday. I'm a fan of Ice so this might be wishful thinking, but when she checked into the game on Sunday, I commented to my husband and kids that there was something about the way she carried herself that felt different to me. She played more carefree (not as in care-less, but as in less worried about messing up), and it showed in her game. I hope her shoulder feels well and she brings a renewed sense of confidence to the postseason. Let's go, Ice!

I thought she played more relaxed when she was at the 4 in the Marquette game. That is her more natural spot and it showed. I'm looking forward to seeing her and Jana together more as a two post duo while Sarah and Aubrey are taking a break. It's just crazy to make a post discussing UConn having 4 available good healthy front court players! So many years of injuries.

I know it was Marquette, but Ice looked different to me. I thought she played well.
ICE has been trying to break out with what she knows she can do. Now is the time. ICE has it in her to go off the charts and there can be no better time than now. I have liked her since she first came to Uconn, but, The injuries that followed Uconn was devasating to her and all the other players that got hurt. Fortune is finally smiling on Uconn and NOW, let's make hay. GO HUSKIES!!!!

I remember a few of her high school games. She was the center of attention on that team and they weren't a powerhouse. One game against Sierra Canyon that featured Jada Williams and Breya Cunningham showed off her full skill set, but also her ability to carry her team. She dominated, and outplayed Cunningham, though Sierra Canyon had more size and talent. Now, at UConn, she's on one of the most talented teams in the country, and it's a different set of responsibilities. You'd think being on a better team would make things easier on her, but it probably feels like the expectations have just been ratcheted up even higher.

I think she can pull the team up to a new level and her return is just in the nick of time. Even better, I look forward to next season, when she will have a ton of experience to be a perfect partner for Sarah, and set an example for Jana and Gandy.

No not wishful thinking, she looked great she played great was having fun and even barked at the ref. I couldn’t have been more pleased and I’m one who thinks Aubrey should be playing more
