WHUS internet only. Jack Riley starting pitcher for UConn.

Just got inside from playing with the dog, and birthday boy DeRoche-Duffin hits another home run in the top of the 6th. UConn up 3-1. Dandeneau coming in to pitch.

I'm guessing DeRoche-Duffin wants to play Holy Cross a bit more often.

Top of the 7th, a little more Husky offense. Buckley walks and Sundberg homers. 5-1 UConn.

Dandeneau pitches two solid innings. It's pretty obvious that he has emerged as the main set up man (along with the lefty Domnarski) to the two closers Polonia and Ruotolo.

Polonia gets two outs in the 8th, then Poulin is comes in to face a lefty, and he gets the last out of the inning. Penders has been giving Poulin looks in the last three midweek games.

Zapata was warming up, but Ruotolo coming in to pitch the 9th.

UConn relievers Polonia, Poulin, and Ruotolo strikeout the last six Holy Cross batters of the game. Huskies win 5-1.

Zapata has just disappeared from the rotation.

Or just plain disappeared. If it weren't for Chris Jones sighting him in the bullpen, I would have thought him a good candidate for the witness protection program.

Good win. Showed some offense - not a lot- but some pop with a few homers...little drama which is good for the soul in these mid week games.

Time to win another AAC weekend.

Love the penders interview with cj. Continues to be frustrated with team would never know he won game 5-1. Sounds like a coach who was in midst of 5 game losing streak

At last, a Chris Jones/Coach Penders post game interview with decent sound quality. While Penders is usually a good interview, in most of the post game sessions this season he is barely understandable or audible due to post game music being played from ballpark loudspeakers, motorized groundskeeper vehicles doing up the field after the game, or some other noise that more or less drowns out what Penders has to say. I've been very disappointed with that. I don't recall having this problem so much when the interviews were on WHUS in previous years.

Holy Cross isn't terrible. As a whole, this is the strongest New England baseball has been in a very long time. Wish UConn has a better record than 22-18, there are a couple of really bad losses that will come back to sting (including those two losses to UTSA, who is a very bad baseball team this year).

New England baseball has always been underrated on the national scene, imo. I just remember a team from my hometown winning the Babe Ruth World Series in 2008, stomping teams from AZ and FL in the process. I also played for an AAU program that won a national title in 2010 against a team from Texas, although not in my age group. Connecticut especially produces some VERY solid baseball talent. I feel like every year lots of these national youth tournaments see the New England representative come from CT. If these kids were able to play all year they'd get more hype.
