I'd be happy if he can raise half of the ~1.7 billion he got for Emory in the same amount of time (7 years) at UConn... though I bet Herbst is telling him to aim higher!

I don't know about an on-campus stadium but she's definitely aiming very high.

.-.
Susan Herbst is kind of reminding me of Jim Calhoun. She doesn't seem to give obstacles much credence. Jim's "it's doable" quote is applicable. She is basically attacking one huge issue after another with no regard for the possibility of failure.

It is really too bad for UCONN's current situation that Herbst wasn't President in the 90s. In the few short years of her Presidency, she has aggressively boosted areas where UCONN fell short in when compared to their academic peers. AAU + endowment. It's too bad that past Presidents and leadership failed to aggressively advance UCONN in the way that Herbst is doing. She is definitely doing her part in the CR quest!

Emory is my MBA alma mater. They are a terrific resource when it comes to raising money. Emory is the vanguard of balling out of control in Atlanta.

They are the leader in ass kicking when it comes to raising money and getting things done.

This is a big time hire.

Pretty amazing when you think about it.

Emory is one of the most wealthy schools in the country. Their $1.7 billion drive was just completed.

This guy's meal ticket was printed for big $, elite private schools...and yet here he is.

Great hire. Now he just needs to change the culture across multiple generations of alumni that haven't felt the need to contribute back to their alma mater.

....if they stop calling during Hoop games on TV. That is pretty sad.

She has been in the chair for 25 months. Seems longer but she has accomplished a lot.

Whether people will acknowledge it or not, it seems upgrading the football program to FBS with the Big East conference really did put our school on the national stage. If we were in the MAC for football and A-10 for basketball, everything would be different. When college hockey fans bring up the Ed O'Bannon case and what kind of an impact it'll have on collegiate sports, they normally consider us amongst those who would benefit from a split since we also upgraded hockey. Perfect timing for us.

The past administrators did contribute to turning UConn into a nationally-regarded (and somewhat internationally-regarded) university. It was mostly timing. If we went FBS/D-1A long ago, we wouldn't be in the AAC.

What the school is becoming is obviously one of our selling points. Whoever got the school into the Big East saved UConn.

UConn Foundation to pay ex-leader through June

By PAT EATON-ROBB / Associated Press / August 26, 2013

>>"The school currently has an endowment of just over $328 million, according to the Commonfund Institute and the National Association of College and University Business Officials, which conducts an annual survey of more than 800 higher education institutions in the U.S. That ranks 26th among public universities in the United States."

It is not uncommon for there to be a transition period between leadership in university foundations to ‘‘make introductions and transition relationships,’’ said education fundraising consultant David King, the president and chief executive of Alexander Haas Inc.

He said that a salary of about $500,000 is at the high end of the spectrum for public universities, but does not seem out of line for what UConn is trying to accomplish.

‘‘If this person were the CEO of a $50 million enterprise, what would I expect the CEO of that company to make?’’ he said. ‘‘If you’re trying to become a world-class institution, or even a regional superpower, or top-100 university in the country, then you have to recruit the people who will get you there.’’<<
