Napheesa Collier, Katie Lou Samuelson and Gabby Williams combined for 57 points in the victory, led by Collier with 20 points. Brianna Turner led the Fighting Irish with 16 points.

Player of the game: Williams is best appreciated in person, so athletic that it can get lost at times through a television screen. She finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. But so many small plays stood out, such as her ability to get a finger on Turner's turnaround shots, or shifting her body away from contact against a drive from Arike Ogunbowale, only to block the shot and keep it in play.

That rebound in the first half where she skyed up for a one handed rebound and put Turner on the floor.....amazing.

How it was won: Breanna Stewart barely managed to average 19 points a game in any of her four seasons dominating college basketball. Collier and Samuelson each entered this game averaging that many points, with Williams not all that far behind. Connecticut has thus far leaned very heavily on the inside (Collier), outside (Samuelson) and everything in the middle (Williams) triumvirate -- and Wednesday was no different.

Interest key to this game and a weird little stat:
Quarter 1 - Uconn ends on a 4-0 run - starts with 0:27 left on the clock
Quarter 2 - Uconn ends on a 4-0 run - starts with 1:18 left
Quarter 3 - Uconn ends on a 6-0 run - starts with 0:50 left

14-0 in the last minute plus of each quarter - margin in the game when garbage time started in at 1:19 of Q4 - 14 points.

This game was won in a combined 1:35 of clock time at the end of each of the first three quarters when Uconn scored 6 baskets and two free throws shooting 6-7 with two steals and no turnovers, no fouls.
In that same 1:35 of clock time ND was 0-3 with 3 turnovers and one foul.

This is what they mean about it being a forty minute game and every second counts. Some times coach speak plays out right in front of your eyes!

Give ND credit. They effectively took away Lou's curl and the 3 pt shot from everyone. But with Collier freeing up the inside ND couldn't handle the inside play of all three forwards, mostly of course Gabby. Ultimately the quickness, pace and athleticism of UConn's ladies up front was just too much.

"She's the best athlete and player I've ever coached," Ramirez said.

Ramirez knew Williams had potential when she saw her as a 4-year-old, dribbling between her legs with one ball in each hand. By age six, Williams could keep a basketball scorebook.

"When Gabby was in the fourth grade," Ramirez said, "she could tell me what defense our opponent was running and how to beat it. That's when I knew she was truly special."

By eighth grade, Williams could grab the rim.
