UConn grad assistant Rich Kelly observing Ramadan in solidarity with players: 'Great opportunity for me'
Kelly, in his second season as a graduate assistant for UConn, will be observing the Muslim holy month again this year. He'll join Diarra, Johnson, Youssouf Singare freshman Ahmad Nowell and walk-on Souleymane Daby, UConn's players who will be fasting during daylight hours, beginning Saturday through the end of March.
"There's definite adversity to it," Kelly noted. "At the same time, it's also really interesting to see the advantages gained. When you're in a fasting state, at times, mental clarity arises.
"The experience really transformed me. Now, I'm looking to get both ends of it: the connection with the guys, but also the connection with myself."
