UConn Football Set For Saturday's Blue-White Game
Amongst other tidbits..
>>"I can't tell you what is in the minds of the presidents and the athletic directors of all the Power 5 programs," Benedict said. "What I can tell you is that some of the universities over the past five years that made the transition into the Power 5, or at that time the BCS, like TCU, if you look at what they had done the previous five years, they had beaten a lot of BCS programs when they weren't there.
"There could be some people that would say some of these programs that made the jump had a significant amount of success. Utah was very similar. They had a lot of success scheduling and beating a lot of teams in the BCS. I think there is a tie when it comes to football. Do I think it's the only reason why a conference is going to make a decision? I don't think so, but I think there is certainly a tie to it."
"We've got to dominate the conference we're in and all that other stuff will take care of itself if it's meant to be," Benedict said. "I have to work with coach to support him and his program. I think he has a great staff. I'm excited to get to know him more. I'm just very excited about everything I've seen so far."<<
>>Offensive tackle Andreas Knappe, 6-8, 319 pounds, and 6-4, 252-pound junior linebacker Cam Stapleton got into as soon as they lined up in a contact drill. A lot of weight was thrown around and eventually they hit the ground before it was broken up and all went back to work.
"That's my man," Stapleton said. "You know he was my host when I came on my official visit? Nah, we're cool. I went from 198 pounds when he was throwing me around; now I'm about 255 and it's a little bit more stressful for him coming off the edge. I'm not the same little kid he was going against, but it's cool. It's just a buildup, the game coming up. We're ready to play. That's all it is. We have love for each other." Said Knappe: "We're probably going to have lunch together right now."<<
