Anyone have the Bullis game?

Watched a whole game and didn't realize it was a different one until halfway through. Regardless, Highland is top-tier competition for HS play. These are the notes I took...

Vs Highland

18 mins

20 PTS
11 REB (4 offensive)
0 AST (2 potential)

1 TO
0 STL
0 BLK

6/9 2FG
2/5 3FG
2/3 FT
  • Turns and has a strong outlet after rebounding. Like that.
  • Tihs is a Highland team with Ament… STRONG competition.
  • I’m actually pretty impressed with his perimeter defense. He’s slow and a big… don’t imagine a guard or anything. But he can stay in front on switches more than expected.
  • Showing more perimeter skill than last year. Dare I say… twin towers?
  • I’d like tosee him battling in the post more–much more. He has 50lbs on Ament and isn’t physically imposing at all. Just not very physical.
  • 3 fouls in 5 minutes… lot of time on the bench first half.
  • First points of the game? 2nd half post up. GET INSIDE. Looks better when he’s popping from inside too… not a PF and needs to not play like it.
  • FT stroke looks okay. Good for a big, but there is a funky hitch at the top but does have plenty of arc.
  • At the end of the day, looks much better in the post than out of it. Had a great spin move late 3rd quarter. Looked like Reed

Houston eeked past us landing a monster class with two kids widely considered top 10, and 3 top 18 kids. This might be Sampsons best class of his career which is a scary thought with his ability to coach.

There are still 5 top ten kids unsigned, including Ament, Wilson, Burries, Brown and Peat. Arkansas and UK could still jump us if they land any of them.

Reibe is an interesting player - will be curious to see how he separates from some of these solid like looking bigs on teams like Gonzaga and Florida.

Adams playing well as La Lumiere leads IMG (#1 team in the country; LaLu is #7) by 15 after three quarters.

Reibe and Bullis play Sunday against some school from Texas. That game is actually the "championship" for their bracket, but I think it's some kind of lower division compared to the one LaLu is in.

Damn, guess I jinxed it. IMG storms back in the fourth and wins. Adams (and the rest of LaLu) looked like they forgot how to play offense; he at least played OK defense but still couldn't really slow down Acuff, who went nuclear in the comeback.

E: specifically, to my amateur basketball eye, he looked very good playing on-ball straight up, but whenever a screen came into play their team defense fell apart. I'd like to say that was more on the screening man's defender flailing, but it still led to a couple of Acuff buckets down the stretch.

I wonder if UConn will recruit 2026 PG Dylan Mingo from Long Island Lutheran (Jayden Ross went there). I don't know about his mental make up but this description sounds like a Hurley type guard.

4-star PG Dylan Mingo

Dylan Mingo showed why he is regarded as a top-10 recruit in the 2026 class. He got off to a blazing hot start in first half, finishing with 18 points by halftime. The 6-foot-4 point guard out of Long Island Lutheran (NY) has a good handle, is a strong defender, and has a high IQ. He is still young and developing of course but has a nice trajectory. The junior finished with 30 points (5 threes), seven rebounds, and 10 assists. Really impressive showing.

I’ve watched so much of Reibe and I agree with your physicality take. Think our no foul/physical practice style will do wonders for him.

All the perimeter stuff he does makes the twin towers idea feasible, but I’m hoping we have a solid rotation of 4s that keeps him at the 5.

Also watched a lot of Darius Adams recently, including his game yesterday. Just gonna share some scrambled thoughts.

To start off he had 2 and 1s in a row yesterday and did a classic Cam Spencer impression, kid lost his mind for a moment he was so hype, wish someone could clip it or find the timestamp for those that wanna see.

Getting some Newton vibes. Skinny 6’4 guard that drives physically and draws lots of contact, better shooter, solid defender. Not super explosive or strong so gets cut off on drives, but he’ll work his defenders body for fouls and angles, classic Newton stuff. Where he separates himself from Newton for me is shooting, I’ll be shocked if he isn’t around 40% in college from deep. Really strong offensive package to work with here.

His team does a lot of “your turn, my turn” with Adams and top 10 recruit Jalen Haralson(spelling?) taking turns creating in iso or off ball screens most of the time. He’s gonna fit way better in our style of offense and completely see what the staff sees in terms of fit.

Obviously not the facilitator we had with 4th/5th year newton (shocker), but I saw flashes of reliable decision making when he didn’t have a shot. Gets destroyed on screens defensively. Sometimes dribbles without a plan and gets into trouble. Getting bigger has to be priority one for him when he arrives in Storrs. Not sure he’ll ever be a pure “point guard” but it’s not a stretch to say he’ll spot minutes there eventually.

He’s easily my second favorite player in this class, think he’ll be a stud for us rather quickly.

He seems to be a bit streaky to me. Conditioning thing?

In their first game of the week, UConn signee Eric Reibe and Marquette signee Adrien Stevens made for a strong one-two punch against Dream City Christian.

Stevens did the work with the ball on the perimeter, using his size and strength to score off the bounce and hit some tough mid-range pull-ups. Meanwhile, Reibe dealt the damage in the paint as a post scorer and play finisher but he also stepped out and showed he can make a shot from mid-range and from three.

Dream City had a hard time stopping the duo, who narrowed out the win 59-57 behind Reibe's 22 points and Stevens' 20.

Think it's mostly how he floats on the perimeter, sometimes his man hugs him all game, sometimes they don't. He also doesn't post up consistently and demand the ball like he probably should.

So anyone else think our recruiting has finally turned a corner after winning B2B natty’s? This is the first year that I have felt the staff could legitimately get every player they wanted. We will no longer have to worry about “who else” is recruiting one of our targets. I could not be happier with the way this class turned out and will never ever question who we offer or spend time recruiting.

I'll say it. I see the header and wonder why UConn is committing to a tournament after saying a few weeks ago they weren't going to anymore.

I remember Prince Ali showing out at this event. I don’t know why the heck that name came to me for the first time in a decade.
