Top 4th, with no outs, the UConn offense loads the bases with 2 walks and a hit by pitch. Padilla follows with a no out double that drives in 3 runs, Padilla winds up at 3B. 11-6 UConn.

MacArthur follows with a no out walk. Root follows with a no out bunt single that brings in a run, 12-6 UConn.

Lane follows with a no out 3 run homer, 15-6 UConn.

With no outs, Rispoli is hit by a pitch, he moves to 2B on a passed ball. A no out Shpur single puts runners on the corners. Shpur steals 2B. Minick follows with a sac fly for the 1st out with both runners moving up a base. 16-6 UConn.

A 1 out single by Dougherty drives in a run, 17-6 UConn.

17-6 lead, now our pitchers just need to throw strikes, no free passes

Bottom 4th, Shaw gives up a 2 out solo homer, 17-7 UConn. Both teams have scored in every inning so far this game.

Seems that UConn baseball is always hitting the transfer portal every season. With the roster limits decreasing next season, it will be interesting to see what happens this off season.
If Penders is serious about getting to Omaha (and he is) he will hit portal pretty hard. There will likely be far more turnover than we are used to seeing.

Bottom 5th, Finn gives up a leadoff walk, and a 1 out single. A 2 out single drives in a run, 18-8 UConn with runners on the corners.

Finn gets his 2nd strikeout of the inning to end the inning.

Top 6th, Shpur leads off with a walk, he steals 2B. Minick follows with a no out walk. Shpur is thrown out trying to steal 3B for the 1st out, Minick takes 2B on the play. With 1 out Dougherty is hit by a pitch, and Padilla gets a 2 out walk to load the bases. MacArthur is hit by a pitch bringing in a run, 19-8 UConn.

Bases are left loaded.

Alejandro comes in to pitch.

Bottom 6th, Alejandro gives up a leadoff double, the runner moves to 3B on a wild pitch with no out. A 1 out walk puts runners on the corners. A sac fly for the 2nd out brings in a run, 19-9 UConn.

The runner moves to 2B on a wild pitch, and to 3B on another wild pitch. Alejandro gets a strikeout (2nd of the inning) to end the inning with no more runs coming in.

Top 7th, a leadoff single for Lane, a 1 out single for Shpur. The runners advance a base on a wild pitch. A 2 out single by Dougherty drives in 2 runs, 21-9 UConn.

If UConn keeps a 10 run lead through the end of the bottom of the 7th, UConn may get the win through the mercy rule.

Lotsa positives!

Weird win, but a win is a win and that was on the road to a decent team. As hard as it is to say this with the inconsistency of our pitching, we need to sweep the Hall at home so that our series in Queens means something the following weekend. Pudvar and West will both start, if healthy. Wonder whether Cooke or Ellison gets the rock for the third game. If I was Penders, right now Cooke is performing so well in the bullpen I’d be loathe to remove him if Ellison can be near competent as a weekend starter.

Right now Cooke is a nice backup plan in the pen if a starter stalls.

Pudvar
Ellison
West

Cooke
Afthim
Shaw
Finn

In no specific order. Need another guy to step forward like West (and Cooke) and we can keep this run going. Want to say Jude but need more strikes. Maybe this week.

The inconsistency in stretches is mind boggling. Shaw was lights out until the last 2 weeks. Abedessa started well and has gotten cuffed for a while now. West was not being used and now he is 3 rd starter. Cooke bad and now turning it around. Finn shows flashes. Maybe Hutchinson or based off his last 2 appearances, Alejandro can step up. Outside of Pudvar and Afthim, no one else has been consistently good.

Consistently good? No one else has consistently pitched at an acceptable level.
