-> UConn or UCan’t

With daunting matchups against Louisville, Notre Dame, SMU, and Georgia Tech on the horizon, Saturday’s homecoming game against UConn is obviously a must-win.

Their hopes of contending are long gone, and their quest for a bowl game is just about finished. Now, it’s about pride and working toward building something sustainable long term. It starts with a battle that could have lasting recruiting ramifications if it goes south.

Said Bond: “You just have to keep showing up.” <-

Anyone familiar with the backup qb? I have only seen Lonergan play..and I thought he was pretty good.
Personally, I think Lonergan is their best QB option, but Bill O'Brien seems to be scrambling right now. The problem is not Lonergan, but the OL, minimal run game, and poor play calling. This is Lonergan's first year as a starting QB.

The backups are Grayson James R-Sr (UConn faced him in 2022 when UConn beat FIU 33-12 and he had no TDs and 2 Ints) and true freshman Shaker Reisig. If Lonergan doesn't start, it looks like Reisig would be the starter as he has been the QB who has come in when they pull Lonergan. Reisig was 3/10 for 19 yards and 1 Int against Clemson. James did start 5 games last year and he was 4-1 with wins against W. Kentucky, Syracuse, UNC, and Pitt, and a loss to SMU. So, maybe James will get the opportunity. Neither QB seems to be a running threat.

Bill O'Brien could very well end this season with an 8-17 record over his two seasons at BC. BC has a problem, and I don't think it's Bill O'Brien necessarily. Is BC truly committed to garnering the resources necessary to be competitive in today's college football?

BC will be playing for pride as there is nothing else left to garner from this season. Hit them hard and early and they might very well fold. If they start a true frosh QB I would bring it on every passing down. That also might end it early.

Another unimpressive head coach from the Bill Belichick coaching tree. I say that as a life-long Pats fan.

Reisig scrambled quite effectively against Clemson in extended garbage time. He isn't the downfield passer Lonergan is. IF O'Brien feels he can blow it up, he will go with Reisig and get the learning process for the future underway now.

I have not looked at their schedule but UConn is probably close to their weakest FBS opponent. So, it would make sense to give Reisig the experience. Then again, a loss to UConn might end his career on Chestnut Hill.

QB is not the problem at BC. Here are Lonergan's stats:
67% completion, 1,394 yards, 9 TDs, 3 Int, 138.5 rating

BC is ranked #23 in passing offense and #133 in rushing offense. BC is averaging 85 yards rushing per game.

hopefully the better version of our defense shows up to this game.

Lonergan rushed for 1,370 yards in HS. Reisig rushed for a total of -3 yards in 3 seasons.

Hmm.... 🤔

BC fans on twitter saying that UConn considers this game their "super bowl", is their own way of coping with the fact they suck and there is no visible path for them to get out of the gutter of the P4.

they think mighty high of themselves, or mighty mighty low of us, to use phrasing like that regarding this weekend's game. I suspect it's the latter. all the more reason to absolutely kick their Arshes into oblivion and embarrass bill o'brien in a way he can't explain away (ie. no matter how resource-lacking they are, a teeth kicking by UConn is not explainable).

I am hoping for not only a win, but a "demoralizing" of their players in the first half - a crushing of their wills, you might say... that then allows us to win 51-10 or similar. the optics of such a loss and the press to follow, would be the sweetest of nectars, to me.

BC is right where we want them. they are losing the will to fight this year.
to borrow a funny typo from the boneyard,
go for the "juggler"!

He's been bad the past 3 games though. Sub 60% completion percentage, 132ypg, no TDs and 2 picks. I agree he should be the starter but only because they don't have a better option.

The problem at BC is the OL and the running game. If you can't run the ball, the defense is going to focus on stopping the pass and blitzing the QB. Last 4 games BC rushing stats:

Stanford: 56 yards
Cal: 197 yards
Pitt: 27 yards
Clemson: 85 yards
