This article is from 2013, talking about the potential Fairfield Inn that was going to be put into Storrs Center. Now that the Nathan Hale is being bought by the University and the population of the area is growing, including building the new hockey arena on campus and the research park going on, should this topic be revisited? IMO a 250 room hotel would be perfect when talking about accomodating visiting teams for sports, as well as visitors in town on business, conferences, and parents staying to see their children.

For reference, here is the article talking about UConn purchasing the Nathan Hale and converting it into full time student housing. This makes a lot of sense for the university to do, paving the way for the potential for a hotel in either the new Industrial Park area of Storrs, which is leading to a new entrance by North Campus, or a hotel in the Storrs Center area by the Price Chopper and the location for the new hockey arena.

"The University of Connecticut is encouraging hotel developers to take a new look in and around the Storrs campus, with UConn possibly providing the land — but not the financing — for one or more hotels.

The university said it seeks a three- or four-star hotel "upscale enough to ensure that the hotel adds to the character of the Storrs community but not at a deterrent price point to university customers," according to a posting on UConn's website.

Potential university-owned locations include the "Depot Campus," the former Mansfield Training School, on Route 44 and the former Bergin prison site across the street. In addition, there is land along North Hillside Road, near the university's technology park, which is now under construction.

There is no timetable for construction, and the size, scope and cost of any project would have to be determined by the developer, said Alan Calandro, special projects manager at the university."

School wants it in Storrs Center, town does not. If they put this in the Depot Campus because of the flipping town...
