Hey Huskies,

I used to keep up a NC State Basketball Recruiting Chart over at PackPride (the NC State Scout boards) which combined all the links and ratings from Scout, ESPN, and Rivals. It got difficult to maintain by hand, so I automated the process, and threw a basic UI together and put it up on the web. I did the same for all the other schools while I was automating it.

I started cleaning up the rosters on my fellow ACC teams first, and then moved on to the Big East. My fellow ACC fans seemed to like it a lot, so I hope you will find it useful as well.

Anyway, here is the UConn page, let me know if you see any corrections, or have any questions.

Pretty interesting chart. Out of 8 would have been juniors and seniors only 1 is still at UConn. That's pretty interesting when you look at it that way.

My issue with it is any chart that lists Andre as the 48th rated prospect and DD as the 45th has just lost all credibility.

We all know what happened to the senior/junior class except Kemba and Alex (Donnell's not even listed) - over recruited and underperformed. Those 3 have NC rings though.

Yeah, Drummond is a flaw. If you look at the way it's calculated it really is messed up by Rivals. Rivals apparently never bothered to change it's rankings and thus has Drummond as "151" or not rated. That messes everything up because he was #2 for both Scout and ESPN. The way this is calculated just adds up the total points and puts them in order from lowest to highest number of points to get a cumulative ranking.

Edit: apparently, UConn is also recruiting Sam Cassell for PG (thought he was too old) and Sam Cassell Jr. for SG.

Good work, and appreciated. It may be flawed but I like the 'one stop shopping'. I hope you continue to maintain it.

Totally understand where you're coming from on the rankings, however, I'm not actually responsible for the rankings per se. All I've done for the rankings was to aggregate the rankings of ESPN, Scout and Rivals, and then order then from lowest total score to highest.

The issue with Andre Drummond was that he wasn't reclassified in Rivals rankings, so he ended up with a 151 ranking since my calculation just assumes that he wasn't ranked at all by Rivals. This caused him to plummet from 1 or 2 all the way down to 45th, in spite of the fact that he is clearly one of the top 3 players in the class. A similar issue occured with DeAndre Daniels where he was left out of the ESPN rankings. Hopefully situations like that are rare, but unfortunately this occurred for two of your players in the same class.

BTW, you can see how the rankings were calculated on this page. Link

Wow, you got that right away, even before I could respond. :) As for the two Sam Cassells, I'll combine them into one profile. I need to fix the logic around players with a Jr. or III in their name, so that this doesn't happen.

Just wanted to make sure I responded to your other point about Donnell Beverly not being listed. It looked like he was a senior last year, so I left him off the chart. Let me know if I had the wrong class for him.

I think this great, not just for Uconn but to see other teams. Thanks

I'm glad you like it, a word of caution on the other teams, I've only validated the ACC and Big East rosters so far. I'm hoping to get through the Big Ten, Big XII, Pac 12, and SEC this weekend.

Did you think about using the composit RSCI that combines multiple top 100 lists. ESPN's ranking have been among the worst. With that said, I like the concept.

Great effort wolf. Next year make sure you check back in because your Pack may have a shot to make a run. Again nice job with the diligence.

I did not think of using the RSCI, as I was completely ignorant of its existence. I'll have to check it out in some detail.

One reason I went with Rivals, Scout and ESPN only for the player rankings, is that they seemed to have the most comprehensive listings of recruits. I looked at MaxPreps and CBS-Eye-on-recruiting rankings, but I felt that if I was going to use a site's rankings, I wanted them to have comprehensive coverage of all the players, and not just some top 100 list they threw together, and maybe those 100 players in their database.

I think Kuran Iverson and Chris Walker both have UConn offers.

It appears to be back up, looks like it was an issue with my host company, if you encounter any more issues, let me know.

Unfortunately situations like this are going to arise where players have offers that aren't shown in Rivals, Scout, or ESPN, and therefore won't show up in my chart. As soon as the offers are in their databases, I'll add them to my chart.

Here you can see their profiles, with links to their respective profile pages at ESPN, Scout and Rivals:

I'm not sure how much is out there for Women's Basketball recruiting, but I'll look into it.

There's just the one Sam Cassell Jr. profile now. :) Let me know if you see Charlie Ward, Bobby Sura, or anyone else from that FSU team showing up on your chart...

Just wanted to give you an update, I've now done a fairly thorough review of the current roster for the rest of the BCS teams, so their rosters should be ~99% reliable at this point.

This is easy to follow, thanks!

What strikes me about this is that we all talk about uconn's youth. But uconn should have 4 seniors (Kemba, Harralson, Miles, and Majok) and 4 juniors (AO, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, Trice, and Smith) right now.

They have just 1 of those 8 on the team!!!

That's 6 out of 8 cases of bad recruiting.

Haralson was touted as a sharpshooter, but was skittish and unproductive. Miles was just a bad apple. Majok we should have been able to see the writing on the wall about NCAA difficulties and family concerns. Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was a bad fit, both in terms of his talents being overrated (like Haralson) and in terms of headbutting with JC. Frankly, Oriakhi hasn't been too much different, only that he was given playing time outright since he was expected to be our post anchor for 3+ years. And Smith and Trice just didn't belong in a Husky uniform; they were bad, desperation signings when we failed to land the guys we wanted.

Most of that is on the coaching staff.
