Leif Bigelow was on the UConn baseball roster for a couple of seasons, he pitched in a couple of games one season in 2020. After that season he transfered out of the program. He has rejoined the UConn baseball program but not as a player.

That’s a really strong non-conference schedule. 13 games against Power conference opponents (the Vandy, UNC, and Duke games stand out, those are great opportunities), and series with UNCG, Campbell and FAU are solid too. Good midweek games too. Should be an exciting season!

That final series vs Maine is unfortunate but the rest of the schedule is pretty interesting.

Originally, I heard that UConn had a home series against a Big 12 team at home to conclude the regular season. However, due to the Big 12 expansion of schools, that series had to be cancelled. Maine was a late replacement for that other series.

Yup, UConn baseball usually announces the team captains right before the school break for Thanksgiving, when the team makes its annual trip to the cemetery on campus.

I love these two weekend series as they are close to me.

One of two trips to the Sunshine State will follow, as Florida Atlantic welcomes UConn into Boca Raton for three games between February 21-23. The second visit is two weeks later, when the Huskies head to Miami (FL) March 7-9.

Though not very convenient, it would have been nice had the series with Maine been broken up with the two teams meeting in Maine for either the first or last game. Hadlock Field (home of the Portland Sea Dogs) would presumably be available for those dates since the Dogs are on the road, and is not quite mid-way between Storrs and Orono. (About three hours from Storrs to Portland; 2 hours from Orono to Portland) It would have broken up the trip a bit for the Bears at one end or the other, and it would have been a homecoming game for Brady Afthim, who is from the Portland area. And the fact that I live about a half hour from Hadlock Field has NOTHING to do with the suggestion. :) Sanford, ME would be another possibility. They have a (highly regarded) 1000 seat stadium that is home to the Sanford Mainers of the NECBL. Only slightly closer to Storrs, and not right off the highway like Portland, though. The Huskies played Maine at Hadlock 20 years ago or so when Andy Baylock was the coach.

Would have been great. Many more UConn fans up there now after following Brady for the last 3 years.
