Looks like the boys are playing some inspired baseball against the #12 team today. Up 7-0 and still batting in the bottom of 3rd.

Excellent win for UConn today. Missouri State ranks as one of the best teams on UConn's non conference schedule, having been ranked among the top 25 in at least some preseason polls. The offense took care of business early and late in the game, and Anthony Kay did very well, having 10 strikeouts over six innings and allowing only three unearned runs off a home run in his final inning of work.

It's looking like an important pitcher out of the bullpen is turning out to be Devin Over, who came in when Doug Domnarski (who had relieved Kay) ran into trouble in the 7th. Over allowed a wild pitch and a walk, but then shut the door on a Missouri State threat when the game was still close. It seems Over is going to be an important bullpen cog who will hopefully help give Penders some time to sort out and gain some confidence in the horde of young talented pitchers that are on this staff.

Today's lineup. A righty on the mound for Austin Peay, so Susi and Stefanski back in the lineup.

2nd inning, Yahn singles, steels a base, and then Melley drives him in. The top half of the lineup has been been producing offense very nicely. UConn up 4-0 in the bottom of the 2nd.

3rd inning, Susi hits into a bases loaded double play, but a run scores for UConn.

Montgomerie is off to a sharp start on the mound this game. 6 strike outs through 3 innings. He got into trouble starting in the 4th inning in his last outing, so lets what happens this time when he gets into the middle innings.

4th inning, my former teammate (when we were in elementary school
lol) Bryan Daniello hits a 2-out double with the bases loaded to drive in 2 more. His third hit and second double of the day. 7-0 good guys.

Montomerie gets into a jam in the bottom of the 4th, but gets out of it with only 1 run scoring. 7-1 UConn.

One runner gets on, but it really is an uneventful bottom of the 5th inning for Wills Mongomerie, who now has 10 strikeouts. To me, this was an important test inning for Montgomerie, and he passed it quite nicely. I'm thinking he will go one more inning, but I'm sure Coach Penders has his own ideas on that. 8-1 UConn lead in the top of the 6th.

Bottom of the 6th, lead off hitter gets a double and eventually scores for Austin Peay. Still, Montgomerie has done quite well on the mound today. 8-2 Husky lead after 6 innings.

we look unbelievably good for the 3rd game in a row after looking like a D-2 game in our opener. Encouraging.

Alcorn State lost by a combined 25-1 to the two teams we've taken a pickaxe to the past couple of days. Not to jinx anything but we have a solid shot at being 4-2 by the end of this weekend.

10-2 top of the 7th and threatening to score again

This team is clicking on all cylinders right now. Everybody is hitting. Would think tomorrow would be more of the same, but hey that's why they play the game.

With the rout on, a trio of freshmen pitchers finished off in relief of Montgomerie with an inning apiece. Redshirts Rajkowski and Dandeneau pitched 1-2-3 innings. The highly touted PJ Poulin had two strikeouts, but also allowed a two run homer in his inning stint. And that was really the only real hiccup for the Huskies all game..
