"UConn announced Tuesday that it is offering an extra $5,000 a year in scholarship money to city public school students who are Hartford Promise scholars and decide to enroll in the university.
That commitment doubles the award that Hartford Promise winners can receive under the new scholarship program beginning with this year's seniors in the Class of 2016.
Under the philanthropy-funded Promise, students in the city school system who have lived in Hartford throughout high school, have a good attendance record, and a minimum B grade average could get up to $20,000 over four years to help pay for college.
Now, with UConn's offer, those Promise scholars can potentially receive up to $40,000 over four years to attend the university. In early December, UConn announced a similar pledge to the New Haven Promise scholarship program."
