This this announcement makes me a little nostalgic and a little depressed and a little hopeful.

It makes me nostalgic because UMass was the big rivalry game when I was in school. It makes me depressed because my big fear is that UMass is a football peer and I thought we had long ago left them behind. It makes me hopeful, because after last weekend I wasn’t entirely convinced that we would still be playing football in 10 years. The announcement of a 10 year contract is a statement of commitment.

I agree it makes sense.

For one. We shouldn’t be looking down our nose at anyone particularly a team that just kicked our butts.

For two this is a game students from both schools can attend. It’s a better experience than watching every away game on CBSsports.

Both schools each need one last home game to fill out their 2022 schedule. If they start this 10 game series next season, where will it be played? Should be at the Rent...

Of course students of both schools don't attend, but they could, and that's what's important.

I actually agree with you, but I'm still a little bitter from last weekend's debacle.

1) We need the scheduling stability

2) We need payback

3) The potential for this to be a fun rivalry is there

We currently have 5 home games scheduled for 2022. Playing UMass at the Rent before or after the BC game would fit very well.

In my youth, the BEST games of the year were played over the Thanksgiving holiday:
-Notre Dame on the actual holiday
-Nebraska vs, Oklahoma on Black Friday
-Michigan vs. OSU, UCLA vs, USC, & locally UConn vs. Holy Cross on the holiday Saturday

A Black Friday game at 4:30 vs UMass would be a bit of nostalgia

PS. Those schedules above are from FBS Schedules. The Umass website still shows USF as 2022 opponent on OCT. 22.

But the USF website says no Umass as one of their 4 OOC games for 2022

Good for future scheduling stability. But, if this was announced 5 to 10 years ago, most would've puked in disgust that UMass is a peer.

I hope UMass gets a better broadcasting partner than Flosports. I (mercifully) wasn't able to find a pirated stream Saturday but maybe that was for the better.

I paid the $20 for a month of Flosports - thought it worked well. Have cancelled renewal already, but cheaper than driving up there :)

As terrible as both schools are, this does nothing but good for everyone involved. They're relatively close where it's a pretty short drive (less than an hour I think) so fans will travel. It gives both schools a guaranteed game every year and helps both schools for recruiting in new england.

Good. Rivalries should be nourished and appreciated not avoided.

They should play every year in basketball too....and IF the Big East ever wants to add another school UMASS is by far the best addition that would accept the offer.
