The ACC was top heavy with only 2 top 16 programs (no offense GT) and even both of them were not elite enough to warrant a top 6 seed. But because NC State won the ACC crown and beat SC and an overrated Louisville as #1's the committee rewarded them when they should not have.
If the conference tournaments are supposed to be mean so much, Texas A&M should not have been a top 6 seed. Baylor should have been a 3 or a 4 based on their last 20 games. Unfortunately, they lost too many games to Covid against ranked teams to boost their profile. Seeding them outside the top 4 was sort of understandable but to seed them as a #7 was a bit unconscionable.
Knowing what we know now and applying back at the time of the selection probably should have been:
1. Stanford
2. UConn
3. SC
4. Baylor
5. Maryland
6. NC State
7. Texas A&M
8. Louisville
9. Arizona
