Fuller: UConn’s young pass rushers look step up against Boise State
>>They just haven’t done it before,” Crocker said. “They are kind of learning on the job and there are going to be growing pains. They don’t have the luxury of sitting back for a year or two and learning what should be done in games, practices or scrimmages, or maybe just limited reps but it is full on go reps, so they are learning on the job.”<<
>>”Sometimes it is painful growing up and going through things but they give us the effort,” Edsall said. “Travis will tell you that the game was a little easier than practice, that is what we want, we want to make it harder for them in practice so then the games will get a little bit easier for them, but they still have a long ways to go and a lot of learning yet to do.”<<
>>One reason why so many newcomers are being asked to play is the lack of upperclassmen to earn those snaps. Not including the players slated to play the Husky — a linebacker/safety hybrid — the defensive linemen and linebackers on the UConn roster have combined totals of 81 tackles, 71/2 tackles for loss and 31/2 sacks at UConn. By comparison, Boise State counters with 516 tackles, 701/2 tackles for loss and 471/2 sacks among linemen and linebackers on the 2018 roster and that doesn’t even include the 258 tackles and 25 TFLs by transfer Troy Lashley during his time at Idaho.<<
