UCLA W. Basketball Postgame Press Conference

Glad to hear Monique is going to focus for the next week, and maybe let Cori coach her since it appears she may NOT know everything !!

"That's the biggest thing that came out of this game," Huskies coach Geno Auriemma said. "We got Pheesa going without Lou."

He's the boss, so ....

No. 1 UConn routs No. 5 UCLA 78-60 for 39th road win in row

As for Lou: "She was very much in the game without physically being there," Gabby Williams said. "We could hear her on the bench."

What was in the sheet of paper that Close placed in front ot Canada? When Jordin first spoke, her eyes were glued to the sheet.

Stand up Brian Regan's latest Netflix offering has a pretty funny bit on post game pressers and why there isn't a mic on the people posing the questions. Worth a watch, if you're looking for a sports related chuckle or two.

When Geno finally decides to retire the logical place to look for a replacement will be on the Uconn coaching staff. But if they look outside for a replacement Cori Close should be in the mix to replace him.

I'm pretty sure that's Kennedy Burke. Not Monique Billings.

Most likely game stats.

A few things to take away from the Game and Press conf: Class coach. She is smart and do the Geno thing: take from other coaches things that works for your program (Geno admits doing that). Canada, got my pregame usual opponent beating but she is a super great kid and a competing kid. The kind you don't want to see lose, unless against UConn. She apparently believes in Vince Lombardi. UCLA shall be a beast to beat at years end.

Good choice but not sure UCLA will like her to go.
She was born in Milpitas, CA, played 4 years in UC Santa Barbara, and worked at UC Santa Barbara and FSU before UCLA.

"It's the discipline...it's the discipline of the habits of excellence every single time..." Quite a turn of phrase from Coach Close. That will stick with me for a while. She did a very fine job of acknowledging UConn without slighting, but challenging her team in that news conference.

Honestly, if the staff is the same as it is now I think only Shea has a realistic shot. The next coach I believe will be a former UConn player, so Moseley I don't think would get it. Of course the current staff could take a head job elsewhere in the interim. Also, people like Rozzotti or maybe even Berube would be looked at. Shea has the inside track b/c she would provide comsistency of UConn culture of being in it currently, She also is integral in recruiting and knows how to talk to the high profile players, while Rizzotti hasn't been in that mix really at GWU. However, Geno doesn't seem to be going away soon and I think he will go beyond the current deal. By Geno's comments in the past, he isn't going to pre announce he's leaving before the final season. He doesn't want a farewell tour. I could see him leaving the year before the last of a contract. That prevents the speculation , Geno is in the last year and hasn't resigned that could turn into a pseudo farewell tour by some.
