Besides all the interest in how Kneepkens and Leger-Walker will fit in, the most interesting development in the off-season to me was Gardiner's surgery. Timea was limited in her mobility last year, was a defensive liability, and a streaky shooter. I don't believe that any mention was made of a lingering injury slowing her down, but apparently there was one. Practice and off-season social media from the team appear to show a fit and happy Timea Gardiner. So, that looks like an unexpected upgrade for the team. It was hard to tell last season how much Kiki Rice's shoulder issues were affecting her play, but they were significant enough to merit surgery, and it will be interesting to see if that affects her style of play. Also this off-season, long-time Assistant Coach Shannon Lebeauf left the team for Rutgers. I believe that her slot on the staff has been filled by UCLA alum and current WNBA player Michaela Onyenwere, but I'm not sure about her recruiting role. This probably doesn't matter for the 25-26 season, but, as of today, UCLA doesn't have a single commit for 2026, with only 4 returners (Betts, Bilic, Muse, and Karamouzi). I had a discussion with someone who is close to the team (but not on staff) this summer and we talked about the recruits that she thought were "high-priority" to the staff... and every name that came up (except one) had either already committed elsewhere or cut UCLA from their list. So, that's... interesting. 😅
