Can someone explain to me how the selectors can almost completely dump the selections from the previous year's team and come up with almost a brand new team, when the athletes trying out are almost the same? Was that a Roseanne Rosanna-Dana-style "Never mind"? Did they just admit that they blew it the previous year? Or did those athletes really all just develop at dramatically different rates? Same question for the U-18 team. How could the teams be so different from one year to the next? And are the rating agencies so clueless about talent that AEH could not even make the top 40?

Can more perceptive observers here enlighten us?

Let's remember to keep an eye on Boston....the 6'3" 2019 kid from Worcester Academy. She was in the final 18...
and according to Adamec seemed absolutely determined to come back next May...hopefully with expenses paid this time.

Courtside for a UConn game coming up??? Hope so. How about a First Night drop-by???

The "powers that be" were determined to come up with the kind of team that would be most successful against "FIBA" style basketball..........apparently the last teams they picked was not big enough nor quick enough to handle it.................let's see if they get it right this time

I know nothing about the coaching staffs or selection committee's process. As for "rating agencies", here is all you need to know. If you don't need or want a full time job, just start your own website, drive or fly around the spring/summer AAU circuit, carry a laptop and clipboard, smooze with the coaches making them feel like Rick Pitino, and chat up the parents of some of the top players and you too can be a Talent Evaluator/Guru. Don't worry about it if you've never played or coached the game.

Kenny Kalina opines on his best players at the U17 trials including...

Mikayla Coombs 2017 GA – Looked like she had never been hurt at all needs to continue to develop her left hand but looking like one of the top wing players in this event.(Session IV Eval)

Best 2017’s of USA Basketball U17 Trials

Aside from what I posted in the past in respect to the failure of the coach, it appears that this years team wanted guards that would pass the ball to the interior players rather than just jacking up shots or driving to the paint themselves. It worked the first two games when the shots were dropping but it killed them later when the guards went cold. Of course there also appeared to be little movement by the post players as well. The question is a chicken or egg thing. Did the posts just quite moving because they were not going to get passed too or were they not passed to because they were not creating motion?

The coach just lost control and didn't seem to want to control the selfish guards as well. I remember after they had spent most of the game ( against Brazil) jacking up and missing long shots the assistant coach instructed them to pass the ball to work for better shots. As soon as play commenced a guard jacked up a 25 footer. They should have been riding the pines until they followed instructions. It appeared that the assistant coach should have been the head coach.

Sounds like what happened during the 3x3 competition...........Amber Ramirez would just shoot from the outside until she started to miss and only then would she pass the ball
