"UConn is one of two U.S. colleges designated to train a new generation of advanced manufacturing engineers and will receive $1.25 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) over five years to get started, authorities say.

UConn said Thursday the DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (OEERE) chose it and Georgia Tech Research Corp. to launch masters-level "traineeships" in early-stage technologies and advanced materials and process technologies in energy-related manufacturing.

OEERE says its mission is to support early-stage research to advance innovation in U.S. manufacturing and promote American economic growth and energy security.

Traineeship programs will focus on advancing critical science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines vital to DOE's advanced manufacturing mission, DOE said in a statement. This investment in the future workforce, informed by the most relevant early-stage research and development, will enable the growth of the advanced manufacturing field and bolster U.S.-based manufacturing and innovation."

Why the heck is Tech getting twice as much? Sounds like crap to me. Outside of that, fantastic news and great for UConn.
