Tyrese Martin summer workout | The Boneyard

Tyrese Martin summer workout

Found this on Instagram. He looks leaner and I’m glad he looks to be working on his handle. Hoping he works on touch and confidence near the basket though…….

Also unclear when this was filmed.

He may be working on his handle. But if he is, they didn’t capture it in that video.

It would go a long way if he just shot the ball like crazy all off-season. It really helps in finishing the easy ones. He has a nice array of skills, he just needs to put the ball in the hole more consistently.

Looks like he’s dead set on playing on the wing. Threes, pull ups, dribbling…lost what looks like at least 10lbs. If he’s really improved in those areas great but If not then he’ll be less effective overall since his strengths last year were rebounding and toughness

He can play in the NBA for 10 years if he can improve his handle and shooting. He has the athleticism to play in the league. He could be terrific this season. Glad to see hes putting in work.

If he develops some "touch" on his layups, his summer training will have been successful!

It's never pretty, so it's understandable... but these videos never show guys getting beat up with blocking pads or getting hit 1v1 and stuff. That's what I want to see. I think even good trainers really overuse 1 on 0 training.

Takeaways:
-still very robotic/upright
-I guess he can take Kevin Hart of the dribble?

I can tell by the court he’s at Allen High School in a Allentown. Must have been earlier this summer.

I hope I am wrong, but KFree senior year comes to mind. Is it about helping the team or your position in the NBA draft? Ideally, you can do both but if it becomes all about the draft it actually doesn’t help the draft.

Good comp. Martin is a poor mans Kfree. But Kfree was a legit college PF whereas Martin has always been a tweener so trying to play down a position despite his natural strengths isn’t as egregious

there’s slightly less of a logjam as SF with AJ and Polley than at PF with Whaley, Akok and Samson so I hope this works out for Martin and he can play most of his minutes on the wing

He showed himself to be a force in several games last year only to later disappear at times, but we need him to be good.
And to make a high percentage of his layup attempts....he would have probably increased his PPG by 4 to 6 (or perhaps more) if he had made 50% of the easy ones he missed last season.

Seeing how lean is and without context from the year prior at URI, I think he may have played too heavy last year. He was definitely stiff last season and I wonder if unbeknownst to him, he spent too much time in the weight room during covid.

Guys who are really strong, finish strong. He needs to demonstrate that aspect before Chief rates him as strong.

Not always. You can be strong but have terrible touch and not be skilled around the basket. I think Martin just doesn't have good touch around the basket. I'm not an expert on that but I'd have to guess you can get better at it.

Quite frankly, I agree Tyrese lacks skill moves around the basket. Tyrese seems to lack a strong, quick second jump when trying to convert on offensive rebounds. So part of the issue is foundational. Part of what you refer to as a lack of touch is essentially an absence of arm extension and follow through. He essentially short arms what shoujd be layups. Part of it may be rushing his shot for fear of shot blockers - IDK.

a college roommate of mine is not a Tyrese fan. swears up and down. i am a fan though. hope he polishes up this off season.

Love the effects in the video. The explosion at the end is dope. I mean, it's horrible but amuses me
