If you didn't see last night or heard when you woke up Tyler Gibert of the Arizona Diamondbacks threw a no-hitter last night vs San Diego in his first career start. All that was good, but his dad was there in attendance, and his reaction was priceless. You could see the pride on his face. It was just special.

I immediately thought of a guy named Bobo Holloman, who pitched a no-hitter in his first big league start for the St. Louis Browns. I guess he was the last one to do it. He ended up with a 3-7 record, 5.23 ERA. He spent the next two years in the minors and his career was over. But he had his moment in the spotlight. I hope Mr. Gilbert enjoys a better career long term. Although there are probably thousands of guys out there who would have killed to have had Bobo's career.

Gilbert had pitched 4 relief appearances prior. A totally unreal moment, and against the Pods.

27 years old

EDIT: There is an Indians rookie pitching a perfect game into the 7th right now vs the Tribe.

McKenzie with 10 Ks on just 85 pitches. Hasn't allowed a hit or walk, but two errors erase the perfect game.

I'm watching the game on the Indians' home broadcast. I love how the announcers have both become fanboys. McKenzie is listed at 6'5 165!

On edit, he just gave up a hit w/ two outs in the 8th. Fans in Detroit are giving him a classy ovation.

Great moment for the kid and his dad. Hope he has a successful career and doesn’t flame out

If he doesn't achieve anything ever again in his career, he's done enough.

To throw a no hitter and put himself in the history book is an incredible achievement in itself, bur yes, I agree with your sentiment, and hope he has a long career.

I can’t believe he’s the fourth guy to do it!
