Dauster on his pod this week said that we're last in the Big East in offensive turnover rate. Is that true? The BE website says we're 7th in "turnover margin," but I think these are two different statistics.

He did say that we were at the bottom in 22-23 as well, but it's something I think we need to improve on either way.

With that in mind, UConn’s turnover numbers are trending in the wrong direction. Through 10 games, the Huskies had been recording just a 14.1% turnover rate. Over the past seven contests, though, they have coughed up 19.5% of possessions.

Building on that, UConn’s remaining schedule features more opportunistic defenses. Only 41% of UConn’s games so far this season have come against defenses ranked in the upper half of the country for turnover rate forced, while 71% of its remaining games are against such competition. With turnovers as a potentially-burgeoning issue for UConn, though, facing more teams looking to force them might be a blessing. The Huskies should get plenty of reps against pressure down the stretch to prepare them for a tournament run.

ESPN Power Rankings

ESPN Power Rankings have UConn at No. 2, but they also focus on the turnover issues...

UConn extended its winning streak to 13 games by hanging on to beat Seton Hall on the road Tuesday, but the Huskies have showed potential flaws along the way. They succumbed to the Pirates' pressure defense in the second half, turning it over 17 times -- and that's not necessarily a new issue, either. BYU sparked its attempted comeback against UConn in November by forcing turnovers, and as Lukas Harkins of Basket Under Review pointed out this week, the Huskies had turned it over on 19.5% of possessions in their past seven games heading into the week.

We are definitely sloppy with the basketball. But it's not bad to have room for improvement in January.

It's not great, but we have played DePaul twice, Seton Hall, and Marquette in 4/7 games, three teams that generally force a lot of turnovers. We haven't played Georgetown or Creighton, two teams near the bottom in forcing TOs.

Still, something to work on. Butler and Xavier games were worse than they typically force, so it's definitely on us as much as it is opponent.

Turnovers are our biggest issue on offense…more than Solo, more than rebounding, more than even those missed bunnies. They kill possessions immediately which combined with the tendency to go cold, completely stalls their flow and allows opponents back into the game.

I think it’s us overthinking things on offense and fishing for perfect opportunities. That combined with bad plays that have Reed or Smith over-dribbling.

There were at least three TO's last night from players slipping and just falling down.
Serious question- Not a hockey guy but I understand Rangers use MSG for home games. If true- Could residual moisture/condensation from rink underneath BB floor affect traction? Certainly does in other arenas. Not an excuse-Both teams have to play on the same floor.

Turnovers and everything else will improve starting with Butler who must be dreading coming to UConn after we lost.

of consequence to us is at Villanova and home vs St Johns. Circle them on the calendar and just take care of business day to day

It’s at Butler

A glaring and continual problem for me, is that we have still have a lack of creators/triple threat guys offensively. We have Silas obviously. Then…? Solo is not a great ball handler/decision maker, Mullins has great skills, but he doesn’t really create, AK has moments. Mal is really struggling. SJU seemed to have at least 4 guys who could take us off the dribble and make things happen. I feel like, even after last years obvious roster deficiency in this area, we still only one or two. That lack rears its head against the few teams like SJU that have such superior athleticism and physicality.

It’s also one of the reason we shoot so few free throws. We hardly ever (not Silas) go to the hoop with a purpose.

Smith dribbles us into more shot clock panic situations than any point guard I can remember. Beyond frustrating to watch and i agree with the no-lob assessment. We are not a high flying team without the likes of a Samson type. Forcing the ball into Reed is causing alot of these TOs. Not sure if that is the coaching staff making them do it, or they lack the vision to see other options.

And for God sake practice those inbound plays. Why we can't figure that fundamental out is infuriating

While Mal is a little hesitant and indecisive with the ball, you have to watch what’s happening off the ball. One of our main sets is a series of ghost screens and fades, if that doesn’t hit then it cycles into solo or Ak coming off curls. If that doesn’t hit, then it recycles. Basically, there’s absolutely nowhere for the ball to go. This also happens with Silas, though not as much.

He doesnt seem to get that you can't recycle indefinitely with shot clock...

We foul so much and go to the line less against those opponents that are athletic drivers, it’s their game plan.
There is only one thing I can think to do from an offensive standpoint. Did you notice that when the clock is winding down Mullins goes up for a shot inside the line or wherever he is and often makes it? Well, he has to do more of that whether it be driving or pulling up. And if gets fouled then we get a 90% shooter. He has to be selfish.

Sounds like you are complaining a lot
The difference, which I don’t expect you to understand, is that I’m presenting data that puts into context a flaw that I’m pretty sure everyone here knows we need to fix. On the other hand, your posts are dramatic, you have mini meltdowns even during an 18 game winning streak, and you excuse all other top teams’ losses but not ours.
