In spite shooting a paltry 37% from the field where they are 2nd in the nation at 50% and only shooting 30% from 3's and out rebounded by 8 from a smaller Creighton team Uconn was able to win..Why..For the first time all year they have had less than 10 to's in a game with just 7!
Each team shot 22/58 but Creighton had 15 to's to Uconn's 7..That negated the rebounding discrepancy..Thankfully they didn't have their usual 17-20 to's a game..Hopefully they will keep it up

As has been discussed in the post game thread, while Creighton was attempting mostly shots from the outside, it resulted in loooong rebounds, out of the reach of our usual rebounders. And when we were on offense, Creighton was packing the lane with 3 or 4 defenders that changed the percentage of rebounds that Aaliyah and Dorka could try to grab.

I am certain that fewer turnovers is a good thing. And going forward this will remain a critical stat. However, free throws were the difference maker in this game. We were 12-14, and they were 4-6.

The facts:
Fewer turnovers gained us 8 possessions.
Fewer rebounds lost us 8 possessions.
Fewer 3 point shots lost us 6 points.
Made free throws gained us 8 points.

We won by 2 points.

You can debate if these or other factors like Dorka causing a steal and a foul, or Lou taking a charge were the difference makers. In the end, the team came together to win in the last few minutes!

Statistically the game was usual for UCONN. They lost the rebound battle, shot low FG percentage but did great on the TOs and did a great job of making their FTs. They have been playing like a tired team and last night was much of the same but they did show a lot of heart finishing that game. They really need to catch that second wind because the challenges are going to be tougher.
