I've never seen anything like this. We've had bad stretches before and the '10 year was incredibly dissappointing but this is the worst I've ever felt watching UConn basketball. We get noticeably worse every game and now it's reached the point where I don't think we can beat any team we play. Drummond and Boatright seem to be the only ones to play with any sort of energy and they are freshman. Shabazz doesn't even resemble a D1 point guard anymore, Oriakhi has been really bad all year and has gotten to the point where he no longer can step on the floor without screwing up and Lamb went from a top 5 pick at the start of the year to a subpar shooting guard. I've never in all my years of watching hoops seen a team regress like this. Everyone's confidence is shot and it looks like coach has given up as well. There musat be some major stuff going on behind the scenes for everything to have gotten this bad.

I wonder if JC is thinking of retirement now.

The pressure seems to be getting to them and they are over thinking everything, plus being tentative. They just don't seem to be having fun out there. The same thing happened last year during their rough patch. Hopefully they can remember that at some point in the near future.

Excellent first post, kelde. I agree. I'm extremely hopeful the team can turn things around. Very frustrating, but the season is still young....well, middle-aged at most. Think... Robert Downey, Jr.!

Could this team simple be a case of too much too soon. Last year they were playing with house money the entire season nobody expected anything from them, this year they have the weight of the world on their shoulders and they are a bunch of 18-19 yo that dont know how to handle all of it.

Plus they lost all the veteran leadership and basically thrust a couple of guys who obviously are unready for the responsibility and/or are uncomfortable being "the guys".

I wonder if Drummond is saying, "Maybe a year of prep school wouldn't have been such a bad idea after all?"

It's a bit hysterical, your post.
This is not done.
Mark it down.
This is not done, and the season is not lost.
While this counts among the greatest slumps of our viewing years, you and me both, we've seen worse.

And redemption. That sweet brilliance that atones for past transgressions, is only a few wins away.

No. He's nowhere near that stupid, and he had a fine game today.

I don't think JC will abandon this group of kids. If things don't turn around this year I bet they come back with a vengeance next year.

Drummond makes a lot of freshman mistakes but he is far from the problem, he was our best player tonight.

I wish I shared your optimism. If we were about to play the dregs of the Big East I could agree but two with Syracuse, a Louisville game, and a Pitt team that is hot does not look good. This would be the time to play the soft part of our schedule to build confidence and get hot. Uh-oh, we already have and that didn't work out like we planned.

My comment about Drummond was not a shot at his play but just an observation that if he knew how this season would go he might have made a different decision. By the way, he played great today. He was the only one.

I've wondered if Calhoun told the team he is retiring after this year. THey seem to be playing like he is a lame duck
