Last 2 years are no different than harpers last 3 years

Tacked on to handle the “stop investing in your business” tax and give the angels more opportunities to add talent around him.

The books about it are absolutely amazing.

bargain

Yeah. Unlike Harper & Machado, at that AAV, Trout is still tradeable (if he doesn't have a full no-trade clause). Anything over say 4-4.5 WAR per year is surplus value.

Read that if he lived in Cali (he doesn’t), he would owe $216 million in taxes. And would only take home $214 million.

The rare time the jock tax (which is a massive overrrach and it’s embarrassing that anyone would think it’s ok) can actually help a player.

I was kidding but it is a bit weird being the highest paid athlete ever when your team has never been good.

I’m pretty sure the vast majority of MLB GMs now know how to value players outside the context of their teammates.

And yet most people can’t do it for other sports...

He really is. He's probably the best player ever*.

*Assuming he stays healthy and has a long career.

It will be difficult for him to rack up the WAR totals that some of the old time legends have just because those numbers were so absurd compared to their era.

That said he keeps racking up 9 and 10 win seasons, he could make a push for top 20.

It’s incredible that trout even has a chance at the WAR record though given how good the game has gotten in the past 10-20 years, especially with all the pitchers throwing 100 with junk and funky deliveries. Just think if he was playing in one of the older generations hitting off pitchers throwing 80mph. I think he’s by far the greatest player ever

Trout is 4th best all-time in WAR for ages 20-27. Only Mantle, Cobb and Hornsby were better.

For position players, I think he could easily end up top 5 (bWAR), between Cobb (151) and Aaron (143) and behind only Bonds, Ruth and Mays. He'd probably be very close to Aaron at the end of this deal, and at age 39 could play one more year and get the couple WAR more he'd need to pass Aaron. I don't think he can reach Cobb.

If using fWAR, that same total would put him above Hornsby and behind Cobb and the other three.
