The article states it seems to be Tristen Newton's preference to be waived and go somewhere else. I guess he feels he should be seeing consistent time on an NBA bench. Good fortune to him getting an opportunity on to another NBA team.

Knicks could use him off the bench, Thibs has gotta get over himself with not playing rookies. Game is somewhat similar to Immanuel Quickly, btw Boo Buie is on the Knicks G league roster.

Funny enough Tyler Kolek is on the Knicks G League team. Newton just dropped 22/8 against them, but Kolek had a monster game 36pts/11ast

reposting my comment from the NBA thread for sake of discussion

It sounds like he initiated this. I'm assuming he/his agent have a plan here.
I did think it was odd how during the combine process he opted to not play in the scrimmage as someone who was projected to go late second/undrafted. I know many players would rather go undrafted than be taken late second round because the money isnt guaranteed at that point and going undrafted they at least get to pick where they go.

My suspicion is there's a team thats shown interest in him early in the draft process that would put Tristen in a spot he wants to be in. They had a deal that if he was available late in the draft or went undrafted he would sign with them (which is why he didnt take part in the scrimmage, to not give any other team a reason to blow up that plan). Pacers took him and blew up that plan.

Maybe he didnt see NBA time available with the Pacers and something opened up with the original team he had in mind? My optimistic thoughts. Or maybe he made a completely emotional decision with no plan whatsoever. Guess we will find out.

I like Kolek but I say sign Newton anyways why not. Competition is healthy you always add more talent then you figure it out. Newton will get open 3s and lanes to the basket you know he can finish at the rim. Newton would join the Nova boys as one of the few guys in the NBA with national championship rings.

Went to the game yesterday. Spoke with Tristen afterwards. He absolutely misses UConn.

Was shocked he was waived. Will be equally shocked if he isn't picked up by an NBA organization.
The article states that was his preference to get waived.

He could still make millions overseas.
Facts.. I get that these athletes dream of playing in the NBA. But believe it or not, some players make triple the money in Europe than they ever would in the states.

Correct. I should have been more clear. I was shocked to find out he was waived. He mentioned nothing during our conversation (none of my business, obviously).

Tristen had multiple teams working him out pre-Draft and has gotten additional exposure with those and other teams via G League games. I would expect that he and his agent/advisors did not make this move without some confidence in his ability to land in a better spot sooner rather than later. Wish him well.
