Looks like a slightly better version than AK. Looks to be bigger, quicker and he can use both hands when he gets to the hoop. If he continues to shoot threes at his current level this kid will end up being top twenty recruit, minimum.

2X starter for a national champion AK?
Do you think this kid is in college for his senior season?

And I have nothing but respect for AK he was certainly a huge piece of our natty teams. This kid just looks like he has the tools that will play in the nba right away with his size.

You are changing the goalpost. You said he "looks like a slightly better version of AK"... this is not true or close to it.

Ok whatever…One kid is going to more than likely be a top twenty recruit… looks like he is 2” taller can use both hands clearly has better hops and is more athletic but he is not even close……..you are not correct saying it’s not close….…so after he is one and done can you splain to me exactly how he is not a slightly better version of AK. What special AAU coaching metric are you using that would rate a one and done player not even close as far as basketball player talent than a player who is playing as a fifth year senior. I would love to see that talent evaluation tool………pocket aces are not better than pocket kings…..yes that is a riddle……

You're taking this personally and it's very odd. I'm not sure where me coaching high school basketball 5 years ago comes into this. I'm glad to know I occupy so much rental space in your head though.

Look at the one-and-dones drafted over the past 10 years. The vast majority are inefficient and not winning players. Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey are great examples. The Cooper Flagg's of the world are anomalies.

Higher potential =/= being a better player. It means he'll most likely be a better player in 5 years.

Also AK isn't a 5th year senior.

Really not taking it personally…..but I find that comment specifically as interesting. It is more a reaction to my experience on this board and having a general idea how it works and the whole tomato/tomoto culture. Which this back and forth embodies.

I do not carry any interaction on this board away with me….my statement was made in exactly through the same lens as this post. This is the best place to get information on one of the things I cherish most ever since I was a 10 year old listening to UConn games on WTIC (I think).

It seems in reality we are saying the same thing this kid has a higher upside than AK. I did not say I would trade him for Alex or that Alex is not an all time great Husky as is Tony Hansen but is the legend “Tony Tallies Two” a better player than Josh Boone?

I understand that AK is currently a better player, although this last season he was tough to watch at times, he is what 4-5 years older. My statement was that at the same point in their development this kid looks to be more advanced than AK was at the same time in his development. And I see him as one and done or two and done max.

I also don’t think it will take this kid 4 or 5 years to get further along than Alex is. Especially since he got so much better as a junior. That usually transfers to monster senior years if the kid stays focused continues to work and does not read to many press clippings.

As for Alex is he not classified as a redshirt senior? I know it was only half a year but I thought I saw that redshirt junior moniker under his name a few times last year. If he is classified as a redshirt senior shirt senior is that just a different way to say 5th year senior. And here we go with that whole tomato/tomoto thing……again.

BTW. I did not know you were a high school coach my comment was related to your posts where you seem to know a lot about the AAU circuit.

watching his tape, I dont think its fair to say "its not close" to say he looks like a slightly better Ak (at same point in their careers). He might not be "better", but his skill set, just with athleticism, makes him very promising. I said earlier in this thread when he was ranked 150, that I think he looks like a top 50 player (just like AK was)

I actually said basketball talent in my response. I know the difference between a 16 or 17 year old kid and a grown man. I agree with your assessment not sure how it got to be all that….

This probably doesn’t help but…
Watch video of AK senior year in high school and the apples to oranges conclusion is that he looks like a slightly better version of UConn senior AK

Which isn’t reality.

No you didn't.

"Looks like a slightly better version than AK."

That's what you said bucko. Do you think I wouldn't check? You should know I'm more petty than that

Not sure if you know but texts are misinterpreted all the time. I understand I am not a basketball savant but I understand the difference between 16-17 years old and 21or 22 years old. Maybe 23 I dont know how old Alex is. I understand you will not believe me and that is what it is.

I will just say this. This kid will be drafted in the first round.

Karaban turns 23 a couple days before the season starts.

When you said he looks like a better version of Karaban, I didn't necessarily agree with you but assumed you meant at the same age. Feels like your comment got blown way out of proportion.

If he becomes a Husky and is = to or better(!) than Alex, I will be drinking a Sacred a game in his honor for as long as he stays and it won't be 4 years.

Thanks I also understand he is not a 5th year senior. Not sure what he is other than a young man who is pursuing a graduate degree while attempting to also secure a third championship, which if it happens, he will have had a huge role in and will become part of a very small group of college players.

I love and respect everything Alex has brought to our basketball program.
