Like the men, the women's game is moving toward greater emphasis on Offense. Scoring 80, 90, and even 100 pts, once considered rare, is becoming more common. That doesn't diminish defense; it makes it more essential to be able to hold opponents close when the ball's not going in until we make enough baskets to win a tough game.

In the middle of that trend Uconn finds itself missing 45 pts with 3 players on the sidelines because of injuries and Covid. Even when CW returns, they'll still be short 30. I don't think there's a bench in America that can make up that scoring deficit game after game, and we'll lose a couple more before that changes.

Yet we have only lost to "ranked" teams. GA Tech should have been ranked but they were playing under the radar, unnoticed by the Committee until they beat us. Now they're #18. Oregon was missing their 2 top scorers. Last week they got 'em back and proceeded to defeat 2 top-ten teams in a matter of four days. On Monday we're going to see them high-jump into the middle of the rankings.

Geno admits in all his coaching he's never seen a Uconn team ravaged like this. But they're winning. And if they can cut their turnovers in half, I believe they will be competitive against the best, even SC.
