I plan to take the train from the CT shoreline to see the UConn Men v Illinois at MSG on Friday November 28th.

From Bridgeport, Amtrack goes directly to Penn Station, a little shy of $100 round trip.

Any suggestions on taking Metro North from either New Haven or West Haven to Grand Central Station and then on to MSG?

Wondering what is the best way to travel from Grand Central Station to MSG?

If it’s nice, it’s like a 25-30 minute very straight forward walk to MSG (walk west to 7th Ave and then south until you hit MSG). If you have to do subway, just take the S from GCT to Times Square and then the 1/2/3 from Times Square to Penn Station. MTA takes Apple Pay (and the google alternative) now so you don’t even have to wait at a ticket machine. Super easy. There will also be tons of UConn jerseys at GCT to follow.

You can sometimes get that Amtrak ticket for as little as 10 bucks one way. At 15/20 it's a great deal to get right into Penn. It may work out that it is cheap on one leg of the trip and more expensive on the other and that's driving the round trip fare up. If that's the case you could do Amtrak one way and Metro North the other way.

The downside of taking the train from New Haven is that it’s a long ride with a lot of stops. I take it out of Stamford. You can get a train that goes straight into the city with no stops until Harlem, but sometimes it’s crowded by the time it gets to Stamford. A lot of your decision might depend on where in CT you’re leaving from.

If you are physically able, I'd keep it simple and take the Metro North from New Haven, bring my cell phone charger, a drink, a breakfast burrito and then take an easy one mile walk from Grand Central to MSG. At least that's my plan from Norwalk that day.
