I think Dan Hurley would disagree with you Ruff. I personally think that this is the most lamentable, ungrateful and singularly myopic take you have ever shared on this forum. All Alex needs to hear from us is one word: THANKS!!! And yes, with three exclamation marks too. There are hundreds of examples to prove that you can be an indispensable player and yet, not be the best player, on a title team. Take the 80's Celtics, the best players was Bird. McHale was an Allstar too. But without Dennis Johnson and The Chief, do they win all those titles? Was DJ better than twenty of his contemporaries? probably not. But for that team, he was the glue. Lyman DePriest was never the best player on any our UConn teams, yet we would not trade him for anyone, would we? Shoot, remember a guy by the name of Cam Spencer? Was he better than Castle? Clingan? Newton? Look, I never met you in person, but this take was a bit trolly for my taste, particularly as we are about to start the tournament. Bad energy from you.
Spencer was better than Newton and more important to our title run than Castle. I don't know how good of a person AK is but he was definitely a valuable piece on those championship teams. I don't think RuffRuff was disputing that though. His claim he could be replaced by 100 different players seems like a stretch though. Agree with you, let's keep the energy positive!

Pettiford shot less than 30% from 3 this year - don’t think that would work for us
Yeah but the coach is awful. Hes not putting Pettiford in good positions. Just let him run hog wild. We need penetration, ballhandling and creation.

He wont. If he is my kid, he would come back. But I understand the other argument: leaving would put him one year closer to the second contract. The problem with many of our stars is that they never develop the game to really 'cash in' on that second contract.
The second contract argument doesnt apply to most players drafted. Its more important to come into the league strong with a lot of investment from the team that drafted you.

We need a starting C, not a backup.

Way too big of a leap for Reibe to go from where he is now to starting C on a championship team.

At a minimum, someone to split time with him 50/50 and challenge for the starting spot.

Our best teams have had dominant center play. That should be the standard. Reibe can get there by year 3, but not year 2.

190lb 7-footer Machot? Who averaged 9/6 at a mid-major? Absolutely not. Kid looks like he has osteoparosis and a stiff wind would snap his femur.

We recruited TARRIS REED to play the backup center for us and with our resources should expect a similar caliber player. We need someone who is actually battling Reibe to start. If Eric wants to be offended that's his own problem.

Our team has proven itself to be at its best with a big, strong, beast of a physical center (at least when you don't have a generationally talented freak like Clingan). You shold expect us to pursue a big, strong, beast of a physical center from a high-major program.
Man I wish there is an Aday Mara type available this year. Diop seems to be the closest so far.

That’s where I’m at as well. His progression kind of plateaued during conference play. He needs to add 20lbs of muscle and make a Clingan-esque leap on both ends of the court if he wants to be the starter. If we recruit a backup level center to pair up with Reibe, I think that would be a mistake…

I'm fine with another 2020 or 25/20 minutes split but the big needs to be starting caliber for sure.

Reibe is not there on defense or rebounding--the two most important thing you get out of a big.

Newton was a final 4 MVP my friend.

AP first team All American if I am not mistaken.
That's a good point. Spencer doesn't have that hardware, but he is proving to be the better talent at the next level. If I had a vote for team MVP in 2024 I would give it to Spencer as great as Clingan and Newton were, Spencer was more impressive IMO. HIs leadership, intensity, BBIQ and shot making were even more key than Newton's PG play. Clingan's impact was unique but Spencer was the star of that offense.

Might as well shut this thread down then because the transfer portal doesn't open until April 7.
Or at least shut it down until we've got our first official recruit visiting campus.

It's important to remember that the amount of "interest" reported online is 90% BS...the visits on campus are when it gets serious.
