I agree with many of your takes but I'm out on this one. What makes college sports great is emotion and passion, even in the age of NIL/transfer portal. I can't think of anything more emotionless than rooting for a rival you don't like and hates your team for an amount of money that doesn't move the needle. I get the concept of every little bit counts, but outside of a power 4 invite or a sugar daddy donor coming out of the woodwork, not much else more elevates the situation all that much.  I bet on St Johns a couple times this year and still rooted against them. Winning the bet was a silver lining to them winning which is exactly what them getting tourney wins and conference money would be to me.
        I've disliked them since Jarvis. I've disliked Pitino since forever. I dislike most of their fanbase. They yell F Dan Hurley at games. Their coach talked trash after the season about waving to Storrs.  They have a billionaire donor buying players. I'm supposed to cheer for this team like I'm some emotionless bean counter?  Hell Naw!
    Regardless of this all I will defer to my original statement. This is all ridiculous because it has zero bearing on the actual results of the games.
