Tranghese to lead Big East Basketball Conference

Per sources, Mike Tranghese will be named the new commissioner of the new Big East basketball conference. "I always thought the Big East should be a basketball focused conference and I am thrilled that the seven Catholic basketball schools share my vision. I always worked to put basketball decisions first when I was previously commissioner of the Big East and I never wanted the conference to sponsor Division 1 football, which is why I lobbied to keep Penn State out of the Big East years ago. Dave Gavitt once told me to make decisions for the Big East based on how they would impact Providence College, which I always did. I personally want to wish good luck in the future to The University of Connecticut, a founding member of the Big East."

Sources say that former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese and former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue will be asked to provide input and guidance.
Tagliabue was a consultant during the Big East’s expansion discussions, while Tranghese has kept some ties with his former conference.
