Especially when she rocked the goggles last year. I didn’t have an issue with Zoe so much. My issue was where were the seniors? Zoe was the only one keeping State in it down the stretch. She consistently got in the paint at will. Took contact and finished. She wasn’t deterred by LSUs physicality or the way the refs let the game be played. I saw a lot of frustration from all 3 seniors at what they perceived as fouls and the physical nature of the game. Zoe had a steal and got fouled by Johnson with 5:04 remaining. State got 1 stop the rest the game. 5 straight minutes and only 1 empty possession from LSU. The game was lost on the boards and defense. State had no answer for Morrow. Tilda was a great story this year, this ain’t her game though. Bruising physical play isn’t for her (yet at least). Awou is built for it, but too raw and not mentally ready for that. Hayes has that dawg in her to handle it but she’s undersized to go against Morrow. Rivers has the length and athleticism but isn’t as strong to keep positioning. Morrow was the game. She dominated. 30 and 19. Williams - meh she was fine. Inefficient. Came up big at times for sure but not the story. Johnson, not impressed. States guards can play with anyone. State didn’t have the front court to match. Final four guard play. Second round post play. It’s a shame but that was the deal and State ran into one of the few teams that could exploit that. I really believe UCLA could have been had. LSU was not a team I wanted any part of. I was disappointed for the seniors. It’s a special group. On and off the court they have been a joy to watch and see develop and become leaders and fantastic players and people, great representatives of the university. I’m going to miss them quite a bit. I will say it was surprising to see James not involved down the stretch. They did try and get her the ball in the final few plays out of time outs but she couldn’t shake free and Cox had a moving screen once. But I don’t fault Zoe. She had a wide open lay up on one it looked like and just an outstanding block by LSu and a save to keep the ball in play. The next time she appeared to have a wide open mid range jumper and Smith made one heck of a close out and got a finger tip on the ball to alter it. Neither shot was forced or out of line imo. Sometimes the other team makes plays. Credit to LSU. Morrow was the best player on the court. They made the plays to get the win. Stings as a fan and sucks not to have more games to watch or this trio. But that’s basketball.
