South Carolina
South Florida (1st win over ranked opponent)
@ Louisville (1st road win over ranked opponent)
@ South Florida (win pu them in Fiesta Bowl)

I always feel like the Iowa State win or the absolute drubbing of Wake Forest belong in there somehow, since both were critically important to the psyche of the program (it showed that we could play like "big boys"), but it's hard to top any of the five that you've mentioned...

wvu win might be a top 5 consideration also

Absolutely! How could I forget that! It allowed us to believe that we could beat the best in our conference, since we hadn't beaten them before that. It was a critical win for the program, I think, and should probably surpass one of the USF victories on the top5 list...

We stormed the field. I'd call that a big win. We were pretty excited.

The Iowa State win stands out to me and I think I'd put that at #1. I didn't think we had any shot at winning, and going into that game pretty much every level headed UConn fan thought we'd never reach the level of a team like Iowa State. ISU seems like a pretty low bar looking back, but that was everybody's mind set the time.

Iowa State was the most thrilling. Remember listening to it on the radio and being in total shock that we were blowing them out. At that time I didn't think UConn would have a winning season for years to come.

I'm assuming we are referring to FBS games otherwise I would throw in the win vs. Hampton in 1998 (1st playoff game/win).

1.Iowa State-Shocker
2.Notre Dame-Established some legitimacy
3.South Carolina-Beat up an SEC opponent
4.South Florida 2010-BCS
5.Louisville 2012-upset a ranked opponent
6.Toledo in the Motor city Bowl would be #6 because it was our first bowl and because it was really an unknown experience. We didn't really know how we'd play in an actual bowl game...
7.Rutgers 2001-I include this game not because either side was any good, but because all week leading up to it, all the media reports were about how despite Rutgers being awful, UConn couldn't really expect to match up. And it was our first win over a Big East opponent (though we weren't in the Big East yet)

That Rutgers game was great. I can't believe nobody brought up DJ Hernandez's win against Pitt in 2OT. Significance/importance aside, I think that was probably the most exciting game I can recall, although @ND was awfully close. I guess when you factor in competitiveness of the game I'd have to say @ND was our best win. Maybe not our most important but definitely top 5, maybe not our most exciting, but definitely top 5, so it probably is what I would consider our top win.

This year's Louisville game isn't one of the Top 5. Nice win, but it had no positive impact on the program whatsoever. In fact, it might have had a negative impact as a loss may have led to P getting sacked.

Wasn't Iowa State (with Seneca Wallace) the first high profile win? Gotta put at least one of the Baylor games up there as well.

That game was just unbelievable...we jumped out to a lead but Iowa State seemed to be coming back. You could fell the momentum changing. then Terry Caulley broke one and it was game, set, match!

I agree with this. On paper it looks good (first road win over ranked team)...but what impact does it really have on the program? A random fluke win in a bowl-less season.

I get where you guys are coming from, and that's why I have it as #5, but I think any time you beat a ranked team, conference champ and you're unranked, its a big win.

Tough to call it a big win, given the state of the program.

It did not generate any additional discernible buzz for the Cincinnati game. It was at the tail end of a virtually dead season where expectations and morale were more or less at an all time low. Plus the game played similar to the 10 games prior (i.e. little offense and a gassed defense in the second half), except UConn got the win. If UConn got the ACC invite, then maybe, but it doesn’t make my personal top 5 by any stretch.

People don't want to validate it as a big win because many are still so furious about the fact that PP is still the coach. I think that kind of thinking is preposterous, really. Our first ever road victory against a top25 team (and the Big East's BCS representative also), and people don't want to treat it as a giant win. Before the game was played, all I read about was how many points we were going to lose by, especially since the Ville was going to take out their Syracuse loss on us.

But it didn't happen that way. What made it even more sweet was the fact that the embattled senior Johnny McEntee came in for an injured Whitmer, and against common perception, led us to an overtime victory. It wasn't just a good win. It was a damned good win!

I think if we beat Cinci and made a bowl game people would give the Louisville win more value as it would have accomplished something and could be credited with a turnaround. When all is said and done it wasn't that, it was just a nice win. Not a top 5 all time win, but a nice win.

Hate to be a downer but all it did was keep UConn from finishing 4-8. But this is the point of lists: to spark debate. I don't have to agree with your reasoning, in order to understand it.

My personal list includes: Notre Dame, Iowa State, South Florida (in the monsoon), Louisville (fair catch game), and Pittsburgh (2 OT at home) Baylor. Honerable mentions go to South Florida to get into the BCS, Baylor, and Indiana (First game at the Rent, established a field advantage).
