1) Shabazz -never thought I'd put anyone ahead of Kemba, but he was a huge part of 2 ships
2) Kemba - no problem with him at #1
3) El-Amin - balls
4) Chris Smith - all time leading scorer in school history
5) Marcus Williams - I think he was the most talented and pure PG we ever had and his pro career would've been a lot different if the Celtics didn't take Rondo 1 spot in front of him.
6) AJ Price -I just watched the end of that 2009 Elite 8 game against Mizzou and it made me think about how underrated A.J. Price is with a lot of us. Maybe he's too high on my list but he belongs in the conversation when mentioning elite PG's here. He's also having a nice NBA career although again under the radar.

Honorable mentions:
Doron Sheffer, Taliek Brown and of course KO deserve some love too.

Think I have the same list as you, can't go wrong with Bazz or Kemba. Kemba's junior season was slightly better than Bazz's senior year and they were both by far the best players in the NCAA tournament, the 2 rings gives Bazz the slightest of edges.

Bout right. I'd probably put Taliek at #5 though.

What puts Shabazz over Kemba for me isn't the two championships, it's that he had two great seasons to Kemba's one. I get the sense that Shabazz's junior year is going to be drowned out by his championship as a freshman and his postseason heroics as a senior, but the 2012-13 season had the chance to be really, really ugly and Shabazz somehow willed us to 20 wins.

After that, I'd say KEA is the clear #3, and then there are a variety of guys you could argue for. Chris Smith, I didn't really consider a point, even if that was where he played a lot of the time here. I agree with @UConn990411 that Price should be ahead of Williams, but I don't know where somebody like Ryan Boatright falls or if we even consider him a point guard at all. That should be a lot clearer after this season.

I don't think the Cs were going to make a player give more of a than any other team.

AJP would be near the top of the list of it weren't for health issues. Laptop gate probably wouldn't have happened... Too much time on his hands.

Taliek is still getting no love. Kid came in as a freshman with no tutor or someone to spell him. In four years he led the team (via general) to our 2nd ship. He is the last of our point guards to have had no mentor. Many of the others named above had that advantage over Taliek.

When he was a senior, I was so comfortable playing against any team because he was a four year starter and I knew we had the best leader out of any team we would play.

Not saying he was the best point guard at all, but damn he was one of the best, especially with him being 'handicapped'.

Here's his roster coming in: linky

al Weston, joey whelton, earl Kelley-these boyz playas, bobby boyd, tommy penders, jimmy foster, vern giscombe, karl hobbs, doug melody

I assume they mean the JC/KO years.......

Weston was really good but more a 2, Whelton would be mentioned in the top PG's as would Jimmy Foster and Bobby Boyd.

Agree nyc on Marcus - maybe not clear cut best but if he stayed out of trouble and played for 3-4 years clean he would have been special - easily the best passer and playmaker and ended up being a solid shooter. The list is pretty good........

I'd list it exactly this way, except I'd STILL put Kemba #1. I'm not sure I'm right (it's all opinion anyway), for the reasons others have stated, but I still think he carried the 2011 team more than anyone has carried a team since Manning in 1988.

That takes nothing away from Shabazz. It's 1A and 1B.

I still think Marcus Williams gets seriously underrated. Anybody who thinks 2006 is in any way his fault needs to have his head examined. If Marcus wasn't on that team, we wouldn't have made the Sweet 16. Talk about carrying a team: He was the only guy who could dribble a basketball. He was the best passer we've ever had (particularly in transition), and it's not even close. Defensively, meh. But offensively he was amazing. Great 3-point shooter, great FT shooter, strong inside, and obviously a terrific playmaker. He struggled in the NBA but he could have made it with the right attitude, IMO.

Oops, Ollie was the PG on Chris Smith's team after George. Smith just was not a PG. Great shooting guard.

2005 also happened.

I'm actually a big Marcus Williams fan, but it's tough to give him the nod over a guy like Price, whose teams accomplished more despite being less talented (albeit, with rosters that were more well constructed).

Don't get me wrong, there's an argument to be made. I just think it's a hard one to win.

I think Williams, Taliek, and Sheffer were the best 'pure' point guards we've ever had.

Gilad Katz, that's like the VCU fan listing Nnamdi Amilo as one of our shooting guards getting valuable minutes.

Marcus was horrible on D. Granted he had no other guards to share ball handling duties with - the prime reason his teams underachieved - but he was still not interested in defense. Kemba was the best two way pt guard we ever had and the best leader Uconn has ever had.

1) Kemba
2) Shabazz
3) KEA
