With a heavy heart, my wife and I will be attending tonight’s game in honor of our dear friend who passed away in late June due to complications from leukemia.

Today is his birthday and our friend was a UConn basketball die hard with family ties in the UConn area. A long-time coach in the FAA and FCIAC levels, he was a hoops nut who taught me more about the game and coaching at the youth level than anyone else I ever known. Many nights we frequented local HS and NCAA games while both incarnations of Bobby V’s in Stamford was a favorite haunt to catch games on TV.

It’s always special making the pilgrimage up to Gampel and it’s been a few seasons for me, but tonight will be extra special.

In addition to sports, my friend was a huge fan of music and the outdoors so in celebration of his life, his family has directed memorial donations to the National Park Foundation at The Official Charitable Partner of the National Park Service. He was also a frequent contributor to the Husky Ticket Project.

Have a great weekend and I’m psyched to be heading up to campus today!!

Great post to honor him, great way to honor him, hopefully you get an easy W and he coaches the boys from upstairs.

Awful situation but glad you're keeping his memory alive.

I’m so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful way to honor your friend celebrating his birthday with the game, the memories, and the traditions you and your wife shared. It’s clear how much he meant to the both of you and how many lives he touched through the sport he loved. Enjoy your day in Storrs and wishing you comfort tonight and a game worthy of his spirit.
