Just watched the 99 title game on VHS (original copy) at my parents house. After seeing Langdon dribble it off his legs I say Jim Calhoun had it right and To Not Foul! Go
Huskies!!!
In that case, yes, he was right. Langdon never got into a position where he could shoot anything other than a prayer. Fouling would have just given them a chance that they never had at all.
I'd have preferred a foul to letting Redick shoot a three in 2004, but it worked out. Redick was unclutch, and it was still maybe a smidgen too early to foul (6 seconds). We commonly think about the McNamara 3, but that was way too early to foul - a foul would have been with 9 or so seconds left.
One time we didn't and probably should have was Louisville in the 2011 title game. They got a decent look with only a couple of seconds to work with.
