I'm trying to get into it, but its not happening. Being in New England and unable to play may be related but still its so surreal to see golf played indoors. Mind you, I felt the same way seeing the Marlins play indoors in Miami a couple of years ago.

Anyway, they are trying to make it fun, engaging and informal (think LIV) but still everything about the courses is artificial (I think). Also PGA golfers aren't known for their personalities are socialness being such an individual sport.

It may take time to catch on but for it may take a generation or two. I suspect Tiger and Rory may be testing the waters for a future commercial and National rollout.

Are you guys tuning in?

I get why they’re trying it but I’m just not sure it’s possible to make a great TV product out of golf that will appeal to more than a niche audience. LIV tried it and has pretty well flopped so far and this just hasn’t been compelling TV viewing IMO.

It has a glorified miniature golf vibe to me. I think I'll ask my wife to watch it and get her opinion. She doesn't play golf or even knows what a hole in one is. If its entertaining/interesting to her, then they are on to something.

I’ve watched a few matches. It’s not compelling imo. Also, the chipping areas, traps and the greens are not up to snuff. These are the best players in the world and they are having a hard time getting up and down for par. Lastly, they want the players chatter and so do I but when you leave all six mics open it can get confusing to listen to.

It’s a cash grab for the bigger pga tour names. I think it’s stuck between being somewhat serious competition and a stage to showcase personalities while playing sim golf.

Problem is most of these guys don’t have the personalities ability to banter to keep it interesting, and watching sim golf is pretty boring.

Add to that the distances and rollout seems off. These guys are visibly surprised how far the ball is going

It does nothing to showcase how great these guys are at golf. It makes them look pretty average, they need to incorporate stats and show that compared to an avg 5 handicap, 10, 15, etc., or else its really just the same thing as when I go hit balls on a simulator imho

Anyone seriously watching sim golf needs to be seen by a medical professional by close of business.
I knew nothing about this event and thought you were joking. I saw this morning some people on social media saying it was the most exciting sporting event they've seen in a long time. I assumed Dubai built a full golf course indoors or something like that. They really just stood in front of a simulator and people found it exciting. Yikes

They should bring Larry and Magic to an Arcade and have them play each other in NBA Jam.

I wanted it to be good. Once the coolness of the fact that they built such a facility wears off, there's just not much grabbing me. The delay from after they hit until the overhead shot kicks in is too long of no visual. It doesn't seem very competitive, and the banter isn't what I thought it would be. The "hammer" is so forced and undramatic. I like the idea, but I don't see it working.

The only time I ever watched this was at a Sports Bar/Pub because it was on the TV next to the UConn Game. So during commercials I saw quite a bit of it.

For over 2 years now we've had to listen to the griping about LIV golf. It's just a money grab, it's not real competition, and it's based on teams not individual achievements. And of course all the fake moral outrage of being backed by the Saudis.

So they basically come up with the same thing? in a gazillion dollar fake "stadium" where they slap balls into a 60 foot sim? Avid golfer, but it's been a minute since I've been interested in the multimillionaire golfers flying around on private jets. It's just another money grab. Saw 5 minutes of Tiger's debut, laughed my ass off, never to return.

I wonder if its one of those things you need to see in person?...which kind of defeats the purpose

Sometime earlier this month, ESPN broadcast the Excel spreadsheet championships. So I'm not going to complain about a silly exhibition with actual athletes.
