He prolly went too far. But on the other hand, you don't know what all has been going on behind the closed doors. If they have been having trouble with classes and drugs and such, maybe something needs to be done.

Triple WOW. I’m sure he’s had this same conversation with the kids behind closed doors many a time. This is just one really frustrated coach. Regardless, I think he went a little overboard in a public forum.

Seems to me like there should have been some people dismissed from the team before it got to this point, if he's really that upset about them. I would have done that and kept the team's business within the locker room rather than air it out publicly to this extent and interrupting one of your players that way in the post-game presser.

Just my 2 cents because I don't have all the details either.

I have no idea if anyone was suspended, kicked-off-the-team or otherwise before it got to this point.
If not, this was a bit over-the-top.
As an earlier poster said, he should have benched anyone he was unhappy with - even if he had to play one of the managers.
That said, the men's game is a whole different deal. It's a wonder you don't see this kind of thing more often.

This type of behavior just sickens me. As the head coach, he can't just be blaming the players in public. There is a time and a place for it and deriding your players in public is not how one should go about doing it. It's one thing to criticize their play, but to criticize their character? Totally unacceptable. If he knew how to coach, maybe he wouldn't be in this situation.

Tara VanDerveer criticized her guards after the disasterous 1997 loss to Harvard. She got a lot of flack for it and it was the last time I ever her heard publicly call out a player. You want to build a winning program? Do so - but you don't call out your team in the media. Ever.

Wow, not being familar with the details, this guy is out of line. A coach should never criticize his player in a public forum. Yell at them in practice, make them run stadium steps, but this is uncalled for. The jerk gene doesn't fall far from the tree.

From what I read and heard in the video....he was harsh but then again the truth hurts......sounds like he was saddled with a group that does not want to play for him......Geno had a similar problem his first year or two.....players wanted status quo....unwilling to change......I'm sure this is NOT the first time that the team has heard this......this is probably not new to them.....I don't think he went too far at all.....this is most likely the straw that broke the camels back.......

Since his comments, his team is 6-0 and won each game by 14.7 points. He said today after his team won their conference tourney championship that he "threw them under the bus and I was the driving the bus... but I have tough kids and I knew they could respond"

Seems like it has worked.

Coaching demands a unique form of leadership, heavy emphasis on teaching.

Leadership is the art of motivating or inspiring others to follow you.

The most effective leaders are those who lead by example

This coach does not measure up. He is just not a leader. He's a bully.
