Boatright-- He looks good as our point guard and will need to play at a high level.

Purvis-- He was terrible against SCSU and needs to let the game come to him. The jumper is bad and if he can't the mid-range shot its going to be a long-season for him. His defense and energy level is off.

Cassel- Looks solid and smooth. He is desperately needed to space the floor as he looks like the only player on the team that can consistently hit 3's.

Hamilton--- Looks like a very good player, good ball handling skills, speed, and activity level on rebounds and leading the fast break. He is the key to a championship or early exit in the NCAA tournament.

Brimah-- is going to have a very good year for us and needs to be utilized alot to take pressure off the guards.

Nolan--- same as last year

T-Sam-- looks like the great sixth man we saw last year. He is a game-changer and has positive energy on the court. He could become starter if Purvis doesn't play better soon.

The game against Duke also is very important for Kevin Ollie and recruiting for the future. A litmus test for us and for the program that is a must win for UCONN to get top recruits to come to play in the American conference

Respectfully, I'd say you were a glass half full guy, but you've likely already taken the glass and smashed it against the wall in angst.

Yes. Boat will need to play at a high level for UConn success. Not one CBB fan disagrees with that.
Purvis was not terrible. You've seen him play 23 minutes of basketball. There is no way you can assess that his mid-range shot is now indispensible. It's impossible to make career calls on a kid after watching 23 minutes.
Cassel is the only one who can shoot 3s? Hamilton? Boat? Calhoun (maybe)? Waaaay too early to bail on this one.
Hamilton is important, but there will be many other keys, just like last year. The NCAA tourni is a box with many locks.
Brimah - not sure he's going to be an O force - I think we have enough guns without him, however, to get the job done. Time will tell.
Nolan - again, just 19 minutes!
T-Sam - agree on everything but supplanting Purvis.

I'd be shocked if Purvis doesn't start for a very long time, even if his production is awful. If Ollie benches him early, after his commitment to our program, it seriously would damage our potential with future transferors.
Ollie gave OC a long time to try to work out his game, and he was giving us almost nothing. Purvis will get his chance too.

Seriously - my main motivation for Purvis to do well in the next few games has almost nothing to do with wanting UConn to be a better team. I've now degraded to the point where I want him to do well because I'll literally have to stop coming to the BY for awhile if Purvis has a few more bad games and there is a constant chatter about him "not panning out" or "overrated" or "should be benched."

I'm not big on restricting speech, but I'd be tempted to put a 1-month bar on all negative discussions about Purvis on this board.

Guy gave us 1 year of his life as a practice squad member because he wanted to play here so badly and some of us are ready to bench the guy after giving him only 23 minutes!

Come on Huskymagic! Drink some of the kool aid - that's why we're fans!

Lmao @ a regular season game against Duke being a litmus test for KO and the program going forward in the future. I see you still haven't figured out how to post without being completely zooted out of your mind.

Winning a championship wasn't the litmus test? Let alone by going through MSU, Florida and UK?

Hamilton won't decide whether we win or not. We need to find a go-to guy. A guy that can bail us out late in the shot clock and can take over the game.

Boat needs to be that guy. I don't see anyone else really stepping up. Purvis/Cassel could also.

Perception matters just as much as results. We have been more successful than Duke last 10 years. Doesn't matter for them though as they keep getting top recruits. We need to win that game to stay competitive on the recruiting trail if we are going to be stuck in the American conference. How often does Duke, Arizona, Kentucky whiff on recruits as often as we do even though we have 4 NCAA titles.

Your right Boat has to be the guy, but he needs help from a number 2 in the perimeter along with Brimah. Daniel Hamilton reminds of Roscoe and Lamb put together as a player. He has the intangibles of Roscoe and the smooth play of Lamb which will be key for us this year. Kemba had a Lamb, Napier had a Boat, Boat needs a Hamilton in order for us to win it all.

Yeah it sucks we ended up with all those LOUSY recruits after whiffing. All those 2nd choices that have won MORE National Titles in the last 15 years than those 3 programs.

Yes, you already mentioned this. Earlier today. In this thread.

It's still ridiculous.

At this point I'm thoroughly convinced you are spelling things wrong on purpose, no one is THAT bad. "Recroots" in the second line and "recruits" in the first? what?

That being said, I do agree with the first half of your post.

Holy Crap - 444 posts in and you just now realize he spells words incorrectly on purpose? No offense Dave, but you need to catch on more quickly.

We do more with less by a long shot than Duke, Kentucky, NC, Kansas and more but we are not dirt poor in recruiting, and we have a big start on next year that could get much bigger. As far as the Duke game, nothing hangs on it because it's so early and we lost so much from last year and one game does not make or break anyone.

Yes we do more with less, but we shouldn't have to with our success, and yes that is part of our success. Being in the American conference we need to consistently beat top teams in order to stay in the national spotlight recruiting. I am happy with the recruits we get, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be thinking of the future. The Duke game is like the Michigan St. game 2 years ago in Germany, its a game that is big for many reasons. We are not an average program where we rest on past achievements, every year is a new challenge.
