Good article from The Hartford Courant about Landrew. Figured it deserved its own thread rather than bury it in the commitment thread. Good to hear about a mom that sees the big picture about UConn rather than that mom 2 years ago who was smitten with Duke. 😀

“I wanted that offer a lot,” Landrew told The Courant by phone after putting on a red Huskies hat to make his decision official on Wednesday. “Once I got the offer, I just knew. I had a gut feeling like I love this school. And then when I took my visit it was just perfect, man. I just seen how Coach (Dan Hurley) pushes his players and I just felt like I need that.”

His mother, Stacey, a former college basketball player herself was smitten when she first walked in the doors of the basketball facility.

“I’m like, this is really like the Basketball Capital of the World, it really is,” she said. “To get to see all the different layouts, the trophies and how the fans are really big on the sport there. I don’t even have a favorite part, I loved everything about it from the time we arrived until the time we left. This is someone your child will be around, so you want to make sure that he’ll be getting what is needed,” Stacey said. “I love how the coaches discipline their players, they hold them accountable and at the same time they love them and they’re just good people. That’s something that you want your child to be a part of.”

😍

Love 85% from the foul line. That is a new tidbit for me.

So many of these top kids play together like Samuels on the same Top 100 with Landrew, Landrew with Holt in this article, but never do the kids indicate that they compare notes or thoughts. With today's pay system I would think there would be more influence from other players than there appears to be.

Recruit the moms and dads and the sons will follow.

247 listing this kid at 6'6", 235. That is awfully thick for a straight wing. I've used Watts and Williams as examples of two shorter college PF's because we explored both in portal this year before AK declared coming back. I'm calling he's backing up Stew next year.
