Note Alexa's comment on the Slime Sisters!

Nika committed very shortly after Paige did. I think she saw and maybe played against Paige in that event in Tampa in the spring. She said she knew Paige was a really good player and welcomed the competition for playing time. Paige said she could play the 2 or 3 and looked forward to playing with Nika. Who knew what this would blossom into?!

Nika article and pic with Coach Pop from the Tampa event.

This is the article that pulled me into Nika world last year. Knowing that she put the other programs aside when she got UConns interest, I felt for her when things didn't go her way early in the season. I was afraid that she would be so down, and regret her decision to come here. We have Geno to thank for sticking with her and giving her a chance to redeem herself, and to Nika herself for not giving up to pursue her dream.

Didn't you know, Geno is also a psychologist? Specializing in 18-22 year old female basketball players. ;)

In retrospect, the ESPN article is interesting> It refers to Nika's grit -100% right on there! I also love how she brings up championships while playing with the #1 recruit-a real tip off to her team first attitude. With both of her parents basketball careers ending due to injuries, it made me wonder how they must have felt watching Nika come back to the court on crutches in the B E 1st rd game. I know I was concerned so I can only imagine, if they were watching the game at home, how they must have been scared out of their wits.

Lastly, looking at the pictures of Nika with Pop and with her family, it struck me that Nika has put on some lbs. I wonder if that might be the cause of her seeming to be a little slow when her opponent is driving to the basket? As a father of a few girls, I know about the Freshman 15 - I've seen it firsthand!.

One thing about Nika that hasn't changed is her infectious smile. We have a real winner in her!

In her recent, “Everything in the U.S. is bigger” comments Nika mentioned that the food is bigger.

Our three OUTSTANDING freshmen prepping for the next 4 NC games. One other thing I noticed when looking at this picture. PB and AE wearing knee pads, but not our "one tough Croatian."
I am campaigning that Paige up her gear and use protective bubble wrapping.
