Happy day after Thanksgiving.
I read a lot of these posts yesterday and had a good time. I also realized something that is obvious but needs to be repeated:

Quick story: a friend of mine was a AA pitcher in the Rays' system. He basically said that although he knew how to pitch, mentally he wasn't strong to shake off a HR or walk. That's what separates the pros from the Joes.

When it comes to cbb, most of are Joes.

When we feel any kind of discomfort when a player is playing poorly, our immediate reaction is to put an end to it. Sit him!
Yank him.
Or if there is a run from the other team.... we want an immediate TO.

We don't like any discomfort as fans but we have to understand that coaches and players, the best ones, know that in order to be great you have to master that discomfort.

Let's take Mahaney: he hasn't played well.
But have we considered that the staff is not leaving him in simply because they're dumb?

They may be doing it because they understand that you need to keep a kid's head up. Maybe us fans can't bear to watch him play poorly, but pro coaches can. Giving up on a player is poor psychology.

If we took the BYs advice and moved AJax down the bench in 23....well, I don't have to finish that statement. You all know how the AJax thing turned out.
Hurley stuck with him, and it worked, because...

Danny Hurley knows way more than we do

I’m pretty sure I’ve said it here before, but to be a fan of a team, you have to be a supporter of the team. Getting so bent out of shape that you start turning on guys who have invested years of their life to the program is just not how you support anybody.

Having criticisms is normal, saying the team is underperforming or needs to improve is fine; talking more trash on members of the team than your average Providence fan is probably neither fine nor normal.

I hope we can put Mahaney in the Joey C role remember he had a couple DNPCD's during the season.

What's really an interesting dynamic is being a Giants fan just rooting for a tank job for Sanders or Ward. I guess you want rookies be competitive but ok with a dropped pass or a fumble. I don't wish injury on anyone but Dexter Lawrence has a dislocated elbow so he should be shelved for the year that helps the tank job, was hoping he just had a sore elbow though.

I'm not a giants' fan. But yeah. THAT is what a rock bottom situation looks like. My Dad is a huge giants fan and said this is the lowest point since the Yale Bowl season. Uconn bball is far from that

No one cares about your giants commentary

Well it looks like you do.
“We” all care deeply about the Giants, especially how they valued Jones more than Barkley. My Yankees lost the WS and now this.
Guess I’ll just have to be happy with 6 Nattys the last 2 back to back.
UConn fans have been spoiled senseless compared to most if not all schools so we can feel bad but no one else will.

So what you are saying is the fault lies not with our stars but with ourselves?

I'll admit to criticizing Mahaney's play on a couple of occasions in these early games. Mainly that for a sharpshooter he hasn't been very sharp. I haven't ever recommended a starting rotation, or minutes (or lack of) minutes for any particular player (that I recall;)). Those things are coaching decisions, and I'm not on the staff.
