this is when football was real

I think slamming a guy on his head should be a penalty. Same with grabbing someone by the facemask.
The game was cleaned up enough for Teddy Roosevelt to not abolish the sport.

I once saw a uniform from the early 1900s that had hand grips on the back of the shirt and the seat of the pants to make it easier to grab the runner and throw him over the goal line. I think it was Harvard. Jim Thorpe’s Carlyle team once sewed half footballs on the players shirts so their opponent, I think it was Army, would have a hard time finding the ball carrier. Now those were the good old days!

Coached against a guy in So MD who played in no helmet and leather helmets days. Bad mamajama!!
Would bang his head against locker in pre game “ speech” and come out on the field dripping blood! His kids ummmm competed hard!!

Great guy, a chemical engineer.

A "Breaking Bad" chemical engineer?

Yeah, but that was back in the days before they're were concussions.

Like the poster says, every clip is a penalty today.

While im not old enough to remember that intro they did still use an updated version of it well into the 80s and man! Does that bring some great memories back for me. I was a kid without a dad in the home but a great mom and an older brother who liked football so he put me on to the sport. Thanks Nick!

I definitely appreciate the efforts to make the game safer, especially since my son played in high school and battled various injuries. But, there is something primal about the old days of football when guys tried to knock each other into another dimension.

It's not so long ago we played like that. See you in College Park... same kit, no?
