I once saw a uniform from the early 1900s that had hand grips on the back of the shirt and the seat of the pants to make it easier to grab the runner and throw him over the goal line. I think it was Harvard. Jim Thorpe’s Carlyle team once sewed half footballs on the players shirts so their opponent, I think it was Army, would have a hard time finding the ball carrier.
