We're sitting pretty right now.
23-6 overall.
Big wins over Florida, Memphis and Cincinnati.
2 games left, including @ #11 Louisville.
If we run the table, perhaps we're a 3 seed. If we don't, we'll most likely end up anywhere from a 4-7 seed.
Regardless, we have a chance to make a statement. It's obvious that there's no outrageously dominant team in college basketball this year, so we have just as good a shot as anyone to win a national title.
As fans, it's time to take it all in. RIGHT NOW is what UConn basketball is all about. These are the moments that make being a fan all worth it, and why we sit on these forums in the off-season discussing no-name guys like Jeff Newbury and Ray Kasongo. But who care's about the future at this very moment? We have everything we need, right this moment. We have a center who can block and rebound named Amida, a slasher named DeAndre, wing players named Omar and Lasan, a 3 point dagger named Niels, and the best backcourt in the nation. Of course, one of them being our senior leader who is a candidate for the Wooden Award. We have a young coaching staff who graduated from the program, and best of all, Jim Calhoun is still a member of the Athletic Department to share his insight. But most importantly, we have a guarenteed ticket to the big dance next week.
We don't know when the next Shabazz or Kemba or Rip Hamilton will come along, so let's enjoy this month.
Who knows, maybe we'll be able to enjoy it in April as well...
As fans, whether it be the ones who've been there since before Calhoun, or the ones who joined in the late 90's... Heck, I don't even care if you joined when the Kemba bandwagon was rolling 3 years ago...This is what it's all about. Just remember, it's possible that in 5 weeks we can be at a parade in Hartford.
