Kevin Ollie - "The standard of excellence that we have at this university is going to continue. We’re not talking about wins and losses, we’re talking about national championships; conference championships. That’s what I signed up for."

That's not like Schiano at Rutgers who PROMISED multiple national championships. Which was and is stupid.

But Ollie sets a goal. And articulates the goal. National Championships.

I want a football coach who knows that a NC is the goal and articulates it. Otherwise, why play? Even if you never make it, that should be the reason you step on the field.

The difference? KO is young and hungry. PP is doing his impression of a Walmart Greeter. He was too old when he was hire. OK maybe not old (I'd have taken Bobby Bowden or Lou Holtz), but definitely not the right guy for the job.

What's disappointing about PP is that he has failed to use his strong ties to the high school coaches to generate interest in UConn football across the state.

i dont think thats the bad part at all, in fact its about the opposite, we are better off right now then ever with RE but the overall program level both on the field and cr wise is killing us.

Hats off to KO. A coach setting a standard of expectations and goals.

I'd remind people that most everyone, even those not excited about his hire, liked P's opening remarks when he was hired.

When a coach fails, no one cares what he says. But that's no reason to pretend he didn't say the right things coming in.

PP did very well in recruiting CT. 2 of top 5 , 4 of top ten. He is making excellent in roads with Ct coaches. I only hear. Very positives feedback from CT coaches. Much better than RE.

PP needs absolute superstars to compensate for his total inability coach kids up and manage a game plan. He came in for McPherson with a loaded team and skated 2 years with the best winning seasons of his carreer. Based on having the table set and limited competition for players in the Northeast (really just BC, Pitt and Penn Sate) he had unbelievable talent at his disposal which incuded the likes of McNabb, Marvin Harrison, and Freeney among other bluechip players on his rosters, and he still could not put togther better than a 9-3 season once McPherson's players got through the system. In 1998 with McNabb and crew in their prime, he goes 8-4 and gets smoked by Florida in the Orange Bowl. That was his true highwater mark.

I really think he is poor to avearge at best but happended to be coaching at the right place at the right time. As competitive alternatives emerged requiring good coaching and player devlopment he starts failing. He might be able to recruit better than RE (not sayin much), but the days of recuriting as one of two viable national level Northeast programs and having the plum pickings are gone. There is little chance he is going to be able to recruit at the level of talent necessary to compensate for his poor coaching. This is even more so given UConn's stranded status in a mid-level cluster conference coupled with an incomepetent AD, and a President who clearly lacks any sense or vision relative to big boy athletics.

there are many fails for PP but I really think recruiting has been more of a success. Time will tell if that translates on the field.

Yeah I worded it wrong. Didn't mean recruiting but general fan interest. Thought PPs local connections would have gotten CT residents excited about the program.

Connections with coaches, in terms of attendance, is not a substitute for winning.

I don't care what Pasqualoni says at this point.

Unless it's "Someone will be over to clean out my office on Sunday morning".

At this point we could almost predict the date we will be free and clear of these bozos.

Exactly!! All of the Connecticut coaches pushed for his hire and yet they don't send their prime players.

That is true but my point is that no UConn football coach ever articulates a national championship as a goal.

Exactly, but can you really blame a HS coach? You got blue chip talent and you're going to send him into a death spiral conference with a losing team with no apparant vision or path? I don't think so. I'll give PP credit on this account - how he convinced a handful of decent CT players to stay local is beyond me.

You're being a little dramatic.

Wasn't trying. I just dont see how you get top talent in the door with the current circumstances. I really don't. P.S. Boise State just dropped...

Not saying I blame a HS coach who has a kid that can play at a top 5-10 school and sends him there. I just think it was naive for anyone to believe and/or give credence to the thought that because the high school coaches love PP they would send ALL of their talent to UConn. Maybe we'll see some improvement if this year's projected class holds together. That said, I'd rather get the lower rated class that gets coached up and shows up on Saturday than the modestly higher rated class that shows little improvement and no energy (which is what we saw in 2012). Maybe if PP and GDL could keep there eyes open during team meetings the team would have a more energized personality.
