Anyone check out the lady Huskies today? geno obviously looked great, but the same cannot be said for the arena. We all know how it is inside, but the translation to television was worse than I thought. No more bandaids and lipstick; the state needs to build a new arena!

Is this the 1st time you watched XL game on TV? Just curious.....

No I’ve watched other games and it never looked this bad. This is the first women’s game I’ve watched in years though.

I would like to see the stats with how we play at gampel vs how we play at the xl center. It almost seems like a road game with these guys. We need bigger games at Gampel. I recall playing #1 Texas at gampel and the crowd won us the game it was epic.

There 2 hoops, a court and a seat to sit in. Fine by me. Some people are diva's.

This has always been my attitude. I didn't mind the old Boston Garden, I liked it, even with all the rats. I didn't mind Foxboro either. It always perplexes me why people need all these amenities like they are going to spend the weekend there, instead of only 2 hours. Maybe we should spend the money on a luxury, smoothly operating DMV instead. Now that might be worth it.

yeah its crazy to not want to stand in line for 20 minutes for a toilet or be able to walk in the concourse without a police escort.

being able to go to the bathroom and expand your lungs are total amenities.

sure every other arena in the country allows it - but remote posters tell those of us who actually deal with it to not notice.

like anyone in 2019 would pay money to set foot in the 1980 boston garden.

i cant believe they built td bank or gillette - upstater is cool with the bleachers at foxboro stadium, these pansies and their patriots place

Agree with you that it looks much better on TV. When you are there the amount of disrepair is striking. I've never felt unsafe on the concourse.

One thing I have never been a fan of is the two tone court. That really has nothing to do with the XL since thats how it is at Gampel as well. I just figured id throw that in

im not saying its unsafe. when its sold out like Wichita or Nova or Arizona - you cant move because the consession and bathroom lines block the entire concourse.

thats why the new proposal is knocking out walls to bring the old mall concourse into the arena

The only thing this thread is missing is somebody telling you this should have been posted on the Women's Board.

Remember games at the HCC when the edging of the court was red with the word "Hartford" in white written on the ends.???

"Like anyone would pay money to set foot in the Boston Garden..."

The Garden was head and shoulders a better place to watch a game than the Fleet/TDgarden whatever.

As for the rest, hilarious! Don't go in the concourse without a police escort!! Unreal.

Guess what? The Bills stadium still has bleachers, and it's a fantastic place to see a game. Stadium was built over a half century ago.

Pansies.

today you braindead maroon. forty years ago people put up with dumps - today they dont.

people love old dumpy stadiums. thats why the oakland colisium and tropicana dome are huge hits and pretty much every professional team but two soaks the government for a new facility about as soon as the paint dries on the last one.

do you think minor league baseball took off in popularity because they were playing at places like yale field and beehive park.

even the spring training facilities are ridiculous. i went to both new stadiums in fort myers last season and they are nicer than the major league parks of 3 decades ago.

someone should tell the people building all these stadiums that people in buffalo love their dump of a stadium - everyone else can stop getting ripped off.

now the people who arent here and dont go to games are going to claim the FRIGGING XL CENTER IS A SUITABLE VENUE. Good lord.

People need the amenities to justify going to an "event" and all the time and costs of tickets, parking, refreshments, etc as compared to sitting on a nice sofa with a game in HDTV.

It's not unique to UConn or sports. Movie theaters and other public entertainment areas have to up their game to get people to attend.

Yes, I suspect that's true, but this started long before the era of HDTVs and all the various internet/gaming options. Probably started sometime around 1990. I believe luxury boxes were the original excuse for it all (themselves a byproduct of tax breaks for business entertainment).
